I'm not really seeing the issue here. She's going on vacation without her 2 month old for less than a week. She talked about how much she will miss him. She's leaving him in great care in his own home. I personally wouldn't be able to do that with my kids at that age, but she is comfortable with it and is doing absolutely no harm to her baby. So what's the big deal?

I agree.

Good for her. I wish I had family nearby who I would've trusted with DD when she was that young. My DD is almost a year old and we STILL haven't left her for the night. A lot of my friends have "date night" and leave the baby with in-laws for one night a month. I'm jealous.

good for her.

Ditto. Who cares? If I had the $$ and a reliable person who wanted to watch my boys, we probably would have gone on a vacation tooChat Icon

I NEEDED a vacation when my daughter was about that age. I had no one to help me...I see no problem with it...and I'm actually jealous.

I do however, respect people who can't, everyone is different Chat Icon

I don't see the big deal. Her baby was cared for while she was gone. I did the same thing when both of my kids were about 10 weeks. I left a few days worth of pumped milk behind for them and was good to go. It also helped that both kids were sleeping through the night at that age, otherwise I would have re-thought my plans. I missed my kids and called to check in, but honestly, DH and I needed that time alone.

As long as the baby is with a trusted babysitter, I don't think it's a big deal at all. With my first DC , I couldn't imagine leaving her, but now with 2 - I wouldn't mind a short vacation!!

The fact that this woman wrote an article about it, giving many reasons and excuses why she is doing it, proves that she is insecure about her decision & second guessing it.
I personally wouldn't do it, but to each their own!!

I agree. She's not only defensive but she goes on attack against women who refuse to do what she's doing.

She says, "In fact, I’d go as far to say we’re doing a good deed by leaving him behind with his grandmother, who adores him to the point that she actually calls him “our baby.” Perhaps in her case it is a good deed. Let's see how much she likes the "our baby" thing in a year.

People fail to realize that life for a 10 week old can be very fragile. I do not know how I would feel if my baby got sick while I was vacationing in Mexico. I also feel that this is a bonding time. Sure people go away for work but many more people are not even back at work.

It's not totally newsworthy but as long as we are discussing it I gave my opinion.

I could care less what this woman does. It just annoys me she puts out an article defending herself. Mothers of all kind make different decisions that work for their family and we should support eachother.

I had to go to Chicago for a business trip about that time. And if DH & I had a vacation planned we would have done it. We left DS with my MIL at 5months for a weekend.

I don't have a problem with her going, whatever, but to say that her son won't miss her? I think she's so far off base, and that made me sad. Chat Icon
