Moments where you felt bad about yourself

Please don't quote

I put on weight this past year and have been hitting gym every day. I was in a situation where I felt horrible recently - for feeling like a leper and finally seeing how much I gained.

It involved trying on bridesmaid dresses and feeling like everyone was looking at me, like holy shit - what happened to her? There's more to the story as why I felt so badly, but I don't want to go into it. I felt on display in a bad way and it evoked something in me. A realization and disgust.

Can anyone share a similiar situation? To make me feel better and not alone? It may help me.

Thank u

Re: Moments where you felt bad about yourself

Of course I have felt bad about myself! I think it happens to the best of us so please don't feel like you're alone! Chat Icon

I struggle with my weight. I am thin but because I work at it every.single.day. Everything I eat I think about, if I don't work out a day I get down on myself. I have come to be a little more accepting of the way I look and actually feel about myself but that doesnt mean that I dont have days or moments when I look in the mirror and think the worst.

Trying on bridesmaid dresses is always a nightmare for most women. I have friends and family of various shapes and sizes but 2 of my closest friends are toothpicks, and eat what the want. They do nothing but give me compliments but it's just really hard when I sit there putting on dresses with them and everything they put on looks amazing and then there is me, tugging it away from my problem areas and squirming. I can't help but compare myself to what the look like and in turn, feel bad about myself. It just happens.

Trust me, you are not alone. But, please don't be too hard on yourself. Ackowledging that you aren't happy with the way you look and wanting to feel better about yourself is a huge step in the right direction. You will lose the weight when you are ready but until then, remind yourself that none of us were created the same and people are beautiful in all shapes and sizes. Your weight will never define who you are so please keep your head up! You can FM anytime you need to talk about this.

Re: Moments where you felt bad about yourself

This whole month.

We were displaced by the hurricane and staying with our ILs and I stopped exercising and starting eating my emotions.

Plus, they always have junk food in the house which does not help.

I desperately need a hair cut and color too and feel blech.

We are planning to be back in our house this weekend though and I hope to be back to a normal eating and exercise schedule by next Monday.

I know what you mean though. I'm not super thin these days in general and work with a lot of skinny minnies. DH is also thin. Makes me crazy.

Thank u both for your thoughtful and helpful responses - it means a lot.
Weight was never really my main focus until recently and I realized my self esteem is taking a hit because of it.
I made this upcoming wedding in the spring my deadline to lose weight.

Re: Moments where you felt bad about yourself

Oh man... I'm there right now actually.

Dealing with IF, I have literally stopped eating healthy and have made nothing but bad choices. I haven't weighed myself in almost 2 months and I KNOW I had to have put on a good 15 pounds. I feel it. My clothes are tight, I'm uncomfortable all the time and just feel sick. Uhhhhh

I have decided the healthiest way to deal with the weight is to deal with the inside first. I am doing all I can to deal - emotionally with IF. I joined the gym and am slowly starting to take glasses here and there... Next is diet. I have already started with that. More water, more fruit, more veggie stir fry.

Most important is HEALTH FIRST. The weight loss will follow.

Don't get down on yourself for feeling... well Down lol We all go through it at some point. Sometimes more then once.

Re: Moments where you felt bad about yourself

I was in your exact situation.

My best friend got engaged and asked me to be a bridesmaid. She and her sister are very thin, and it was in my mind the whole time that I would be the largest woman in the wedding party.

The day we first tried on bm dresses, there were some pictures taken. I can't even find them now, I was embarrassed to begin with, and next to the two of them, I looked even larger. I probably deleted those pictures. Chat Icon

I turned that outlook into a positive for me, and it spurred me not just to lose weight for the wedding, but BE healthy, for ME. I took photos every step of the way, and used them to recognize my accomplishments. Eventually the self loathing went away.

I lost 80 pounds, the wedding was seven months ago, and I am still healthy, eating well, exercising regularly, and losing weight. Try not to make the wedding your finish line. It was a life change for me, and it could be for you too. I have faith in you, and am available anytime via FM for anything you may worry or wonder about. Good luck. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon
