are you swaddling DC? if so when ? we've been swaddling him at night only, but I realize he is not sleeping well during the day and I"m wondering if I should swaddle him for naps as well, DS is 4 weeks

Re: mommies of newborns and infants
We swaddled Kaydyn for naps and at night for 5 months. Around 5 months then we swaddled just at night, and then at 6 months stopped completely.

I'm swaddling Joey at night. I never swaddled John and he was a terrible sleeper. Joey sleeps like a champ

Yup, we are swaddling at night. Although we leave his arms out becuase he likes to suck on his fingers. During the day he seems to nap just fine without it, plus I'm trying to get him to learn his days/nights so I figure by not swaddling during the day he will get the message

Re: mommies of newborns and infants
First off.... understand Arianna always likes her arms/hands by her head.. in EVERY sono that's where they were.
Yes, we swaddled her.. all the time and especially at nights..
It lasted maybe a few weeks then she freaked me out cause she'd wiggle until her arms/hands were free then drag up the blanket over her face just to get her arms free.
So we started letting her arms free at night but swaddled her during the day when we were awake to watch her.
Now we rarely swaddle her at all
She's 7weeks

Re: mommies of newborns and infants
No. We gave up on swaddling about 2 weeks after he was born. DS hates to have his arms swaddled so we were only doing the lower half of his body. But then we introduced the sleep sacks and he sleeps much better. He was kicking out of the swaddle anyway, so I didn't think it was doing much.

Both of my kids hated being swaddled and would just kick the blanket off and both were sleeping through the night by 5 weeks.

Re: mommies of newborns and infants
We swaddled her for the first week but after that it was hard because she absolutely HATES her arms being confined. She wrestled with the swaddle and pulled them out. It got her so agitated. Once she is dead asleep I can tuck a receiving blanket tightly around her to keep her arms secure but if she notices what I am doing she freaks and yanks them back out.

We've been swaddling ds since he was 3 weeks old for naps and at night time. He can't sleep without it. He's 3 1/2 months old now and we still do it.

Same here and DD is 4 months. She doesn't sleep well at night, but it was much worse when she wasn't swaddled.

My first son we swaddled day and night. My 2nd son I swaddled him for 2 days after coming home from the hospital. He hated being swaddled and would break out of it no matter how tight we made it

Re: mommies of newborns and infants
We swaddled Charlotte from day one - for both daytime naps and nightime sleep. She's 4+ months and is still swaddled at night. She actually loves it...though there are times when she will break out of it to suck on one of her hands.
ETS: she started sleeping 8+ hours at 7wks. Aside from a week and a half (nightmare) she continues to sleep 10+ hours through the night.

Re: mommies of newborns and infants
I am currently trying to wean DS off of swaddling. He is 4 months old. Now I only swaddle him when I can't get him back to sleep at all. When he was younger I was worried I swaddled him too much. I actually emailed Dr. Karp from the happiest baby DVD. Someone replied back saying to swaddle DC whenever they were fussy, even during the day. If it works, then why not? Also, swaddling didn't work for us until I learned how to do it properly.

Re: mommies of newborns and infants
DS kicked out of every swaddle, even the swaddle me. Even when I try to tuck a blanket in when he's in the swing or car seat - he kicks it off.
He's been sleeping through since about 8/9 weeks, with his legs spread eagle.
ETA: If I was you I would swaddle him during the day too.
