how much clothes do you/did you have for your child?

I am trying to put together his fall '10 wardrobe Chat Icon and want to know how many pairs of pants, onesies, sweaters, shirts, jammies etc it enough.

I figure he wont' need as many outfits as he did as a newborn/infant...but that could be completely wrong. Chat Icon

jeans/sweats/underroos/crawlers all that jazz. how much is too much? how much is too little? i want him to really get wear out of each piece, but I don't want to have to wash and wear every day!

TIA

I would do 14 of each with extra socks. I stopped using onesies around 6 months

I'm never one to count how much my boys have so I can't give you exact numbers.

I think a few pair of jeans.
Maybe some khakis and nicer dress pants
Nice long sleeved shirts (polo type)
A couple of heavy sweaters
Some hooded sweatshirts
Lots of onesies (both long and short sleeved)
Feet PJs

I am always counting. I go into his room and count out what still fits etc. I like numbers. which is weird, b/c my dh is the accountant, not me Chat Icon

I do want to continue with onesies. I hate the idea of his shirt riding up during the winter exposing his back.

I wish they made onesies in MY size Chat Icon

7-10 pr PJs (depends how often you, er, your MIL does the wash Chat Icon)
casual pants: black, navy, tan, grey, camo (KOHLS jumping beans = ideal)
2 pr jeans
dress pants: black, tan
2 button downs
5-10 polos
5 one piece things (although these don't fit DS too well anymore. he has short legs, long torso)
a fall jacket
2 zip up hoodies
about 10 pr socks

I don't put him in sweats too often. He's always wearing polos/pants/shorts/jeans

...thats what I meant sorryChat Icon Since he is home with MIL I would do:

7 pairs of cozy pants-check Kohls-their jumping beans stuff is nice and soft(usually $5 each and they have Kohls cash right now)

maybe 3 pairs of jeans and 2-3 pairs of khaki's

More shirts now that I think about it because thats what I seem to have to change most often. Socks usually come in a 3 or 6 pack-I would do about 12 pairs

Hmmm, I don't really do numbers but if I did I think 6-7 of each would be good. I like the idea of having 1 for each day of the week.

But to be quite honest, when I see something I really like for DD, I buy it...no matter how many of the item I already have Chat Icon

I don't really count either and I have no idea how much I have for the fall/winter because I have stuff from my son and now from my sister's kids too. I should be set.

I really just wanted to mention that the long sleeve onesies are hard to come by so if you see them, get as many as you think you'll need for the winter. It seems that one they sell out, they don't restock them. My older son was in onesies until they didn't fit anymore. I think the largest they make is 24 months. I love them in the winter.

I have not bought that much in terms of clothing for Cailen in 2 years!

By the time he was 15 mts, I bought 2T-4T stuff, rolled up pants, adjusted the waist bands, and he was good to go - it never looked like he was wearing anything too big, just baggy!

As he got bigger, I adjusted the waist bands for his belly (which actually slimmed down so he was still the same size) and unrolled the pants.

I was very good at shopping for him!!!

OMG Chat Icon I overshop Chat Icon

I "forget"....

For fall the girls have about 25 pairs of pants ( this is all combined) ....20-25 dresses, 40 onsies, 30 ish shirts, 14-16 pj's Each...7-8 sweaters, 4-6 sweat jackets...God knows what else. LOL

Actually I should clarify I dont overshop, I get everything on clearance or cheap on sale...and I get sooooo much hand me downs ( that I forget I have Chat Icon )

but as my sons wardrobe would attest, I FORGET....

Case in point.....I got a cool tee shirt at Target today b/c it was on sale for $1.14...and I loved it, only to realize it didnt fit in his tee shirt drawer ( and I thought he needed tee shirts Chat Icon )

So for the sake of this thread I counted and he has 51 shirts in there Chat Icon Chat Icon ( long and short sleeved though, thats got to say something no?? ) ...

Usually he has about 4 pairs of jeans, and like 6-7 pairs of sweatpants and a pair of black and khakis

About 8 sweatshirts, 1-3 fleeces and a snowsuit, and like 3-4 medium weight jackets.

a few fleeces.
a few dress shirts ( 1-2)

2 pairs of sneakers, one dress shoe, 1-2 " boots"

and I just recently got Carters PJ bottoms at a Tag sale for charity, brand new with tags for 50 cents each, apired them with hanes white shirts for PJS....he has like 14 or more pairs for fall ( but they cost me under $20 for all 14 tops and bottoms! )

So needless to say, I'm taking the $1.14 shirt back on principle that he doesnt need it and for that price, someone else might Chat Icon

Eta- this also might have to do with how little I do laundry Chat Icon

Chat Icon Chat Icon thank you for bothering to do that. 51 shirts!!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon that is impressive.

christine, my big splurge are his onesies. I am addicted to Le Petit Bateau and their dastardly cute little french sayings. whenever I see one at Century in his size I buy it to stock up.

they also always seem to have Carters white long sleeved onesies there, if you are ever in need. Chat Icon

Hmmm DS always has 5-6 sweatshirts or fleeces (one for car, diaper bag, etc.), maybe 10 pants?, 7 footie pjs, 5 sweaters, maybe 6 plaid button down shirts, 10 or 15 comfy tops, maybe 20 stride rite socks, but only 1 pair of shoes (Stride Rite).
