Moms of children 2 years and older, please talk to me about this.

DS is way too big for the pack n play now. But he is still in his crib at home. He shows no sign of wanting to climb out and sleeps so well.

I want to move on to something else when we travel. Do I need to move on to something else at home as well?

Have you put them in something less contained on the road, but kept them in the crib at home?

Any advice? What did you do? TIA!

We moved Caden to a bed in July. Before that, when ever we traveled to the house upstate he would just sleep on his pullout couch or in bed with us. We never had an issue.

I don't think so....DS was in a crib up until a month ago and he turned 3 in April. Before that he knew that he slept with me/us in a bed away from the house and in his crib at home. He actually loved his crib.
When we went to Niagara falls he was sleeping in a king size bed all by himself. We were their for 3 nights and I think he got so use to it that he had a hard time sleeping in a crib.
My DD is 2 and she is still in a pack and play. Maybe if he is getting to long for it how about finding a twin pack and play because they are bigger.

We have these Aerobed for kids and Andy went back to sleeping in his crib when we got home with no problems.

We just spent a week in Lake George at a cabin that didnt have cribs. We bought an inflatable bed for toddlers from One Step Ahead. We put it on the floor since DS rotates like a clock in his sleep. He rolled off of it a few times but it wasnt bad at all!

We had DD in a bed but when she spent the night with my parents she was in the pack in play for a couple more months. After she'd been in the regular bed for a couple months they got an Aerobed. She does fine in it. When we travel, we now book rooms with two beds- she sleeps in one bed with me and DH sleeps in the other bed.

I think she means a pack n' play for twins! Chat Icon

ETA: Oh, and answer your question ... we had DD in the pack n' play this summer when we were on vacation, even thought she maxed out on weight and height. I didn't know what else to do!! She slept fine, though. Don't know what we'll do next summer! Chat Icon

When DD is home, she sleeps in her crib, but when we went on vacaction she refused to sleep in the PNP at the hotel, so I put her in bed with me. She slept fine and went right back to her crib when we got home.

They sell those blow up beds in that step magazine (forgot the name) it has raised sides on it so they cant roll off. Have you considered trying that for traveling.

We actually bought the Aerobed pictured above, but it states it's for ages 3 and up. We are so concerned about him wandering in a strange room by himself in the middle of the night. Every hotel we have been in he has opened the door, even with the deadbolt locked. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Kell, I understand your concern; Gracie did the same thing at the hotel last week; opened up the door while mommy was getting dressed (daddy had run out to the car)...nice.

We always put Gracie in the p-n-p when we traveled or she was at the grandparents & then back in the crib at home. Kell, I know its tight, but Gracie still feels comfortable in PNP & she's tall. She feels secure.

We used it when DS was 2. I thought he'd get out of it but he didn't, it was weird.

Whatever you use, I'd stick a chair in front of the door, just in case. He's a little smarty-pants!

I just ordered an Aerobed. I figured that because he sleeps on a cot at daycare, he would be OK on that.

I will report back in a couple of weeks. Chat Icon

I heard from a few moms of younger kids that their children escaped this tent.

My friend has one and she just uses it as a toy box (it is literally filled to the brim with toys) and she still has 2 other regular pnp, I can see if she is selling it (I can't imagine her asking more the $30 for it since I think she bought it second hand). Her twins are now 2 years old too.

you could put a nice cushion in there so he's comfy cozy.

it also folds flat for easy transport.

Uh oh, you're going to be in big trouble for that answerChat Icon Chat Icon

Kelly, we always had her sleep in bed with us when we go away and still do. She never has a problem switching back to normal routine.
