moms of "late" walkers.....
sorry, its on my mind after goign to the gtg today and seeing Samantha was one of the only "non-walkers" in her group....when did your dr tell you to be concerned and how did your child get over the fear - dd will stand up all the time on her own and not hold onto anything but will NOT step at all....only if she has something to clutch onto (hope this makes sense...)
thanks from a silly mom who got all worried today

Re: moms of "late" walkers.....
Both my kids were 15 months when they walked. I don't think I ever really got concerned, and my doc never said much. 18 months is when it might be looked into further if they are not walking.

Re: moms of "late" walkers.....
Sounds completely normal. I have met a lot of babies who didn't walk until 15 months or so. I would say as long as she is standing and pulling up on things not to be concerned.

It's not your fault. It's not like you can practice with her and you've been slacking or something. They walk when they're ready I think.
I've learned not to get stressed about the physical milestones but concentrate on the cognitive ones. There are a lot of late walkers, they just weren't at the get together. Don't let it stress you out - before you know it, she will be walking.

ITA!
DS didn't start walking until he was 14 months old, maybe even a bit later, closer to 15 months. I really try not to keep an exact timeline of when he's accomplished something. I just make sure he does!
ETA: I know now that he does things at his own pace. And try not to fret if he hasn't done something before another child.

I was...lol...I think we walked out together (I saw your tag as I waled away and thought, "oh thats the dec gtg girl!" since we are sched for that too!)...my dd was the tiny one (and we got there late....) she was wearing jeans, and a pink hoodie with a white shirt underneath....I am kinda tall and wore jeans and a tan sweater...
I guess I was too in "neurotic mom" mode to notice that another dc wasn't walking...lol...

Re: moms of "late" walkers.....
I don't think 13 months is late at all. DD is walking with a push toy and can maybe take a few steps, but is not walking.
My mom told me I didn't walk until 16 months. I had no desire and nothing was wrong. Just lazy I guess Still am

Re: moms of "late" walkers.....
Deirdre first of all I totally did NOT see you and Samantha at the GTG and now i feel badly or else I would have said hello (actually I didn't get a chance to say Hi to alot of Moms and kiddies )
Secondly though.. Nikolas will be 13 months next week and still doesn't walk.. he runs around as long as he's holding a push toy and cruises and *maybe* takes a few steps if he forgets to hold something but then immediately sits down and crawls again. He is so quick when crawling I guess he doesn't feel the need to walk to get around? Not sure, but he's def. not a walker yet and seems in no rush to be one..
I get concerned sometimes too since it seems like everyone I know has kids that walk before 1 yrs old but please know that you aren't alone and i"m sure there is nothing wrong with either of our kiddies!!
Hope to see you at the holiday GTG, I hope to talk to you and more mommies then!

hmm....I def saw him and thought he was walking too....but then again, I saw how much he LOVED his pizza and thought he was so cute!.... I saw you....but wasn't sure if you would know who i was...esp since I know I am *never* on since this school yr started and my kindergarteners steal all my time, now I feel silly for not just walking over.... my dd was the tiny girl on the end near the twins at the table when they were all eating...
dd sounds like your ds then....she was working the room with the baby carriage...and a few other push toys...she also loved the slide thing..although she didn't get she was supposed to stand there and just bang away inside it when other babies wanted to actually slide!

Re: moms of "late" walkers.....
I have a peanut also...she will be 14 months tomorrow and not yet walking. She crawls really fast though! She will walk with a push-toy, but when she wants to get somewhere fast, she drops to the floor and crawls there

Re: moms of "late" walkers.....
16 months and we were all worried. We were convinced he would be an early walker. He got so good at crawling that he didn't need to walk.
The ped told me not to worry till 18 months.
This time around I promised myself not to worry about anything!
They will walk when they are ready and by the time they go to school they all run!

Re: moms of "late" walkers.....
My DD walked when she was 13.5 months. I remember worrying the same way you are now, but now at 17.5 months, she's flying and zipping along, oh how I wish she would just slow down a bit!

OMG I am such a dope, I totally DID see you and Samantha but had no idea it was you ...and I'm so shy sometimes I didn't think to introduce myself Yup Nikolas was def. into his pizza, no wonder he's such a big boy
Next time I'll definitely say hi and we'll chat a bit! (and I have a feeling based on these replies, we'll both have walkers on our hands next time )

My son didn't walk until 15 months and now at 16 months he is running. They all move at their own pace, i wouldn't worry at all. Within a few months, you will be running after her. BTW, I remember her ftrom yesterday and she is just adorble.

Re: moms of "late" walkers.....
This is SO Megan!
I was freaking out! But I realized she stands, walks along things, took her first steps at my gram's funeral but hasnt really tried since then. She crawls at the speed of lightening. I think she realizes this and that it doesnt take much effort to get from one place to another like walking does. She is very stubborn and hard headed as well...she does EVERYTHING in only her OWN TIME.
I do admit, I am a little jealous when I see kids her age and way younger walking around. I wonder why she wont just do it already. But then again, why should I push her? Every child is different. I asked my ped, he said the same thing..if she isnt walking by 18 months, then its cause for concern. I am sure she will be by then..but for now....shes probably the FASTEST crawler in the world!
