Moms of late walkers
So...DD is not walking yet. She is almost 15 months old (13 months adjusted age for being a preemie). Now...I know that because she's a preemie, some of the developemental things will always be late (she was a late sitter, crawler, etc). However...even at her corrected age of 13 months she is still not walking.
When we were at the ped for her 1 year visit, the doctor said that she would like to see DD walking by her next visit at 15 months (which is coming up in December), but DD is just not walking. She walks with a walker...she holds onto furniture, but she just doesn't have any interest in walking on her own. Don't know how to teach her to do this
For those of you that had late walkers...when did they actually walk?

Re: Moms of late walkers
My was cruising from 11 months and finially started to walk on his own a week before he turned 15 months. So if you go by her corrected age then I think she is still ok.
What has your ped. said?

At her 12 month appointment, the doctor said she would like to see her walking by next appointment which is at 15 months. Her appointment is Dec 17. I just don't think she will be walking by then, if she hasn't tried it yet. Not sure what the doctor can say/do if she isn't walking

Re: Moms of late walkers
DD was almost 14 months when she FINALLY walked (just a few steps) without assistance.
I was kneeling on the floor with her and daddy was standing a few feet away, we had her standing up and she was motioning to take steps, but I let go of her hands and off she went.
It took awhile for her to walk decently on her own too

Don't let your doctor pressure you into feeling like she should be something she isn't. Plenty of kids walk late....they are all different!!!

Re: Moms of late walkers
My dd was a late walker. She didn't seem to have much interest in walking more then a couple of steps at 14months. She always appeared a little cautious about walking so would drop down and crawl. Now, at 15 months, she is walking all over the place. Mollie will walk in her own time...I wouldn't worry too much about it.

same for us. Over thanksgiving he turned 15 months and those days home he just practiced and walked and now is mostly walking and not crawling anymore. It happened in 4 days - before that he'd take 5-6 steps since 12 months of age and then plop down and crawl. I think any time before 18 months is nothing to worry about!

Re: Moms of late walkers
I wouldn't worry. Unfortunately for you it's not something you can teach her. She will do it when she is ready. Dd didn't walk til 15 mos. She was cruising at 6 mos! Everyone told me she'll be walking any day now and I listened to that for 9 mos! But children that walk later are very different than those that walk early. Dd never took 1 or 2 steps then crawled. She also wasn't wobbly or unsteady on her feet. the day she decided to do it she just went and kept going and going and going. She's very cautious. And she had the standing and the walking perfected from cruising she just had to decide that she was brave enough or daring enough (neither of which she is by nature) to let go. It will happen. Don't worry until you hit 15 mos and your visit is close. If she hasn't by then I still wouldn't worry. She is progressing if she is cruising. She'll be fine.

My nephew was the same way. He did not walk until he was about 16 months old. One day he just started walking. When she is ready she will walk.

Re: Moms of late walkers
Thanks everyone...you've made me feel a little better. I'm not one to compare notes with other mommies so much, because I know they are all different. But I'm tired of hearing about everyone else's kid is walking. A girl I work with has a 10 month old and he is starting to walk...and I'm like...nope, DD is not walking yet.
She did the same thing with crawling though. She never did the army crawl, or crawl backwards....one day she went from sitting and not moving around much at all...to full on crawling really fast across the room. Maybe she will do the same with walking
