Moms of newborns and infants -- Nightlight or complete darkness?
Do you have your DC's sleep with a night light or is their room completely dark? I have a very small night light on in DS's room all night in case he needs a changing. But I'm thinking he'll sleep better if I keep it off all night and only turn it on in case he needs a changing and/or feeding. What do you do?

His room is completely dark. I am waiting for his shades to come in though so there is light during the day.

Re: Moms of newborns and infants -- Nightlight or complete darkness?
right now he's in our room and we have a nitelite. Its really for me so i can check on him in the bassinet. when i change him, i usually go downstairs b/c im warming up his bottle, so i change him on the floor in the living room so i just put the tv on.
the light though doesnt seem to phase him.

Complete darkness, and I keep meaning to get blackout shades as well, for naptime.

We have a very dim nightlight -just enough to see by on the overnights.
For naps, he's good with total and complete sunlight or total and complete darkness. We like to mix it up so he's used to sleeping in any environment. He's 4 months old and can sleep anywhere

Complete darkness. I leave the door open and the hall light on when I go in to BF him in the middle of the night. I also have a very dim lamp next to his changer just in case I need to change him but I keep it off otherwise.
ETA: His humidifier does have a small nightlight on it that is always on but it is pretty dim.

We keep the room in complete darkness. We plug in a nightlight to feed and change his diaper in the middle of the night.

We have an LED nightlight. Id fall flat on my face if I didn't have a light on in there. The light can be green or blue and is rather soft.

Re: Moms of newborns and infants -- Nightlight or complete darkness?
I have a glade plug in nightlight and a twilight turtle. Honestly she could care less about light or noise. Her blind stays open all day/night and she sleeps just fine. She also sleeps through the vacum and cleaning, dog barking, phone ringing and so on. I have soothing music on all the time. I do not want a picky sleeper so keeping light off of her and no noise has NEVER been an option. She has been exposed since day 1, but then again the NICU was never dark so she was used to the light before she came home and the noise.

At night, we have a nightlight on. During the day, it's whatever - sometimes I put him in the swing so I can watch him, sometimes in his crib w/ no lights. Depends on the battery status of the monitor more than anything.

Re: Moms of newborns and infants -- Nightlight or complete darkness?
We've always had DD's room completely dark, I didn't want her becoming dependent on light at night or being scared if she was in the dark somewhere else (like if we were travelling, etc).
Though we do have a nightlight in the bathroom which is right next to her room...if I need to go into her room in the middle of the night, when I open her door, the bathroom nightlight helps illuminate her room just enough for me to make out whether she's standing/laying down and for me to see that the path is clear for me not to trip.

I have a little nightlight in DD's room. It's really more for my benefit so when I go in to check on her I don't trip on anything and wake her up.

Re: Moms of newborns and infants -- Nightlight or complete darkness?
When AJ was super little... we had a desk lamp with the lowest wattage bulb we could find. She slept with us and we needed light to change her by. It was off while she slept but we turned it on to change her. We kept it on the floor facing a wall to be as less distribing as we could get it.
Now she has a night light LED on an outlet lower than her crib. Its one of those light sensors...if its dark enough it turns on. Its not bright at all. Its just barely enough for us to see her in her crib in the middle of the light. Or as I say its like a full moon on a cloudy day coming from inside her room.

Re: Moms of newborns and infants -- Nightlight or complete darkness?
Complete darkness since the video monitor can "see" in the dark. DD's mobile had the projector so we use that sometimes, but otherwise it's dark.
