moms of newborns/infants that can NOT sleep on their backs?
so my almost 6 week old dd's new thing is that shes refusing to sleep on her back... shes been up for 2 nights with out sleeping except if we hold her on our chests and shes on her belly or if shes in her bouncy seat.
im petrified of SIDS so i was extremely aprehensive of putting her on her belly in the bassinet.
we do not have a crib or pnp all we have is the bassinet , bouncy or swing and she wont sleep in her swing. We tried sleep positioner, we tried with out, we tried on her side, we even tried laying he ron her back in the middle of our bed and she screams bloody murder witin 15 min.
I decided to give putting her down on her belly in the bassninet while we are awake with the AC and Fan on, and... SHES SOUND ASLEEP!!!! and has been for a good hour!
Is this safe? are there any other moms that put their babies on their bellies... i slept on my belly as a baby and im fine but im just so scared. any support, suggestions, advice is greatly appreciated?

Re: moms of newborns/infants that can NOT sleep on their backs?
How is her head and neck control? Have you seen her turn her head and switch positions in her sleep?
I was too nervous to do it when she was that little. The one thing my ped was adament about was that she sleep on her back.
Now she is 6 months and flips on her stomach to sleep all the time, but there is nothing I can do to prevent it.
Id let her sleep in the bouncy. Either that or try putting her bassinet on an incline.

A doctor will tell you that it is absolutely NOT safe. Personally, it was the only way my boys would sleep. DD has been sleeping on her back but especially DS#1 would only sleep how you descibed. I put them on their bellies. I've had all sorts of comments but they had strong necks and were able to move their heads from side to side plus I needed sleep.

Re: moms of newborns/infants that can NOT sleep on their backs?
I know that this is sticky subject but DD#2 is a belly sleeper and has been since about 8-10 weeks. When she learned to roll to her belly which was 10 weeks she starting sleeping 10-12 hours a night. I spoke to my ped about it and he felt that if they are strong enough to lift their head(while on their belly) and turn it side to side, then they are ok. She rolled at such a young age and I really had no choice. She is now 15 1/2 months and fine and will still only sleep on her belly.

Mason is almost 11 weeks... won't sleep on his back at night. He naps fine in his swing during the day. I have the wedge and prop him on his side and he sleeps fine. In the mornings he gets fidgity and I lay him on his belly on me and he's happy. I have to stop that soon b/c he's getting used to it and I'm going back to work soon so I won't have that cuddle time. Boo!!
My girl friend's son refuses to sleep on his back or side. Will ONLY sleep on his stomach. Her Ped said if that's the way he'll sleep then put him on his belly and to get an alarm that goes off if he stops breathing. She got the alarm and he's been doing fine on his back. Her DS is about 6 weeks.

Re: moms of newborns/infants that can NOT sleep on their backs?
DS slept better on his belly but DH was adamant about having DS sleep on his back. SIDS risk is greatest before 6 months. DH convinced me it wasn't worth the risk. Also my friend's cousin's baby died of SIDS and he was sleeping on his belly. That story scared me enough to not put DS on his belly again.

Re: moms of newborns/infants that can NOT sleep on their backs?
DS was exactly the same way, wouldn't sleep on his back or his side, but when he slept on our chest, he was sound asleep for hours. So, I put him to sleep on his belly for a couple of hours, staring at him of course, and a lightbulb went off. My ped gave me the OK as long as he was monitered. We had and still have the angelcare motion moniter, which I highly recommend. An alarm goes off if the baby stops breathing. If DS squirms off the pad, it goes off sometimes, but it's great.

Re: moms of newborns/infants that can NOT sleep on their backs?
I was too nervous to even try when they were that young. Now they both sleep on their bellies, but they roll all over the place and flip over on their own, so there is nothing I can do about it. Our ped said once they can roll over both ways it is fine for them to belly sleep.
