Moms of potty trained girls...

At a restaurant, does your husband ever take her/them to the bathroom?

We go out to eat at least twice a week. Even when I make DD go before we leave, somehow she has to go again (or does she...because sometimes "Nothing's coming out" (after I've squeezed us both into a tiny stall with my face basically in the bowl to clean it off and line it) which normally necessitates a second trip ten minutes or so later...but let's get back to the point...Chat Icon...).

My DH has never had the pleasure of these experiences. Last week DD and I are waiting for a single toilet bathroom when a MAN and his DD come out. After a couple of glasses of wine, you know I had to stop him. Chat Icon I told him, "I'm sending my husband to your table for some lessons."

When I grumble over this my DH replies, "Well, you celebrated when we had girls." Chat Icon Chat Icon

What's your DH's involvement?

Oh and PS...and people wonder why I haven't even attempted to train my almost 2 year old DD!!

DH has yet to do this as DD#1 is just recently potty trained. At this point if we are out I'd only really want him to do it if there is no other option. At home if he is "on kid duty" he's responsible for everything, including potty time...

He will do it, though not as often as me, because he wants me to teach her the right way to use a public bathroom. Ummm, ok Chat Icon

We haven't done this yet, but MY dad did bring us to the bathroom if we needed to go and my mom wasn't around. Otherwise my mom brought us in.

I could see DH taking DD in when she's old enough to use the toilet. He's been taking our DS into bathrooms since he's been potty trained. My only fear would be that he's not as super-clean as I am and may not clean/line the bowl first the way I would (With DS, he's tall enough to pee standing up, so no worries about cleanliness)

My DH has no problems taking Julia to the bathroom, he does it all the time since I usually have to stay with the baby, helps me out a lot!

Re: Moms of potty trained girls...

IF DH takes the DD to the restroom, are they supposed to go into the men's room or the ladies room?

Most moms of a DS take them into the ladies room, which seems right. However, I wouldn't want my DD to go into the men's room, it doesn't seem right. Can DH take her into the ladies roomChat Icon

The adult goes to their appropriate gender's bathroom, IMO.

DD isn't potty trained yet, but I will certainly be taking DD into the bathroom when we are out.

Oh yes, and DH just told me recently that he can't possibly take her because she might "see something." I said, "Have you ever 'seen something'?" Come on now! Chat Icon

Re: Moms of potty trained girls...

DH has when I am not with them but it makes me shudder as I can just imagine him plonking her down on the toilet seat with no protective cover, her touching everything and a half azzed job of washing her hands!! so I like to take her when we are out just to be on the safe side. I also wouldnt like him going to the mens bathroom with her.

Well I would hope they wouldn't do it in the urinals!! LOL but yes they can pee or poop behind the door in the toilet, its just quicker for them to use the urinals sometimes, I never got the whole urinal thing.....I am LMAO over this!!Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Moms of potty trained girls...

It's faster to use the urinal to pee, but a lot of guys are either more comfortable in a stall (just like at home, even if they stand), or there are no available urinals, so we use a stall.
There's nothing to see, except the backs of people. Guys don't normally like exposing themselves to other guys.... (unless you're George Michaels... Chat Icon ).

In HS, I used to work at the County Parks, and I cleaned the bathrooms. The womens' bathroom was 10x worse than the mens' bathroom... Chat Icon

I would never have let my DD in the womens' bathroom there.

Since men don't use the stalls as much, it's usually fairly clean. At least all the one's that I've been to.

DD is pretty newly trained, in the last month or so. I always have a tote bag with an extra set of clothes and underwear, etc. I remind DH to take it with him when he is out with her, just in case.

Last week, I told DH that there was a portable potty in the car in case DD had to pee while he was out at the soccer game with my DS (no available bathrooms). He told me no way, he would just bring her home to pee and then go back Chat Icon

Re: Moms of potty trained girls...

Yes. It's probably like 60-40 or 70-30 I will take her because some mens bathrooms are heinous...but DH will take Bella to the bathroom just as often as I would...

And that went for when he had to change her diaper while out as well...

Same here. My DH takes my DD to the bathroom if I am not there but if I am also there I take her. I am just better at the whole putting toilet paper down thing than he is and it just makes more sense IMO. But I also have boys so he does his fair share of toilet duty too bc he generally brings the boys when I am there too.

What???? The portable potty is the best!! Better than a public toilet in many cases. Good luck to Dan with getting her to hold it driving all the way home again...he will be using the car potty very soon.

Same here. In fact, he took her tonight while we were out at sushi.

(and I've taught her how to stand on the back of the bowl, and I hold her over while she's squatting - makes it MUCH easier than trying to clean and cover a dirty bowl. That way nothing touches the bowl except her shoes.)

Re: Moms of potty trained girls...

I have to say, my husband is an absolute trooper with this. He always takes Ava to the bathroom when we're out. The absolute best part about it, though, is I don't even have to ask him to! I wish I could give pointers on how to get your husband to do this, but I have no idea how it happenedChat Icon
