Moms pregnant with #2 - hospital question
So as of right now I'm going for a VBAC so nothing is scheduled. I do not think DD is measuring big at all (I am having a growth sono at 36 weeks so I'll know for sure then).
What am I supposed to do with DS? My parents do not live anywhere close. I have one friend close by that I can leave him with if I go into labor in the middle of the night but honestly I can't imagine calling her at 3am saying please come get my son
Plus, once I call my mom she is going to want to be there at the hospital with me, not watching DS. My ILs can watch DS but they are going to want to be there too (and I understand this, I want them there as well).
What kind of a plan do you have set up for when you go into labor?

Re: Moms pregnant with #2 - hospital question
Well, since I just found out that no children under the age of 18 are allowed to come to the hospital at all, DS can't even come to wait for someone to pick him up.
Honestly, the plan is to call my parents when I have to go to the hospital. It really all depends on when this little baby decides to start making the journey.
If it is during the day on a week day, DS is in daycare. So I can just call my mom and she will pick him up from school and bring him back to our house. I think the plan is for my parents to watch DS at our house and DH will go back and forth from the hospital so that they can come to the hospital to visit me. I also have MIL who will want to come out here from Queens (we are in NJ) and I am sure she will stay with DS too at the house while everyone else visits at the hospital.
With this being the second baby, I am not all that worried about EVERYONE being at the hospital at once. Besides, I can only have 2 visitors at a time anyway. THey will all get to see the baby.
And for the record, I am due in 9 days so this could be any second now!
If I happen to go into labor in the middle of the night, we spoke with our neighbors across the street who agreed to come stay at our house and listen to the baby monitor (as DS sleeps) and wait for my parents to get here IF for some reason I can't wait 40 minutes for my parents to get here.

That's a good idea, but we are new to the neighborhood and I don't know anyone well enough to ask that yet...
Maybe Shorty's mom can come stay with him

Re: Moms pregnant with #2 - hospital question
I am most likely going to have a repeat c/s so my mom will stay with DD while DH is at the hospital with me. If I go for a VBAC it would be the same thing. I'd rather DD be with my mom and be happy then have her with someone she isn't really close to so my mom could wait in the waiting room.

Re: Moms pregnant with #2 - hospital question
I am due June 23 and I am praying that I go over my due date by a 4 or 5 days lol because by then DS will be out of school for the summer.
My mom lives 15+ min away so she will come when I go into labor and stay at our house till I come home from the hospital.
She want's to be there for the birth but I need her to be with DS more. I have no one else that he would be comfortable staying with for a few days.

Re: Moms pregnant with #2 - hospital question
Im delivering at Stony Brook and luckily my parents live 1/4 a mile from there, so we are dropping DD off and then proceeding. If they didn't live so close to the hospital, I would probably call them at the first signs of labor to come pick her up.
Ill tell my parents that you need to drop Luca off at their house till your parents can get there

Re: Moms pregnant with #2 - hospital question
Since I'll be a sched c-section...Kaydyn will be spending the night before my surgery at my mom's house. My ILs might be staying there as well (they'll almost def stay while I'm in the hospital). My mom will bring her up to the hospital in the morning while I have the c-section. Then she'll take her home and bring her back for sibling/grandparents visiting hours then take her back home. DH will prob leave right after generaly visiting hours and take her home each night.
If I was having a VBAC then my mom would be the one on call since she lives only 10 mins away and since I have a pretty big family they would all keep her occupied at the hospital.

Re: Moms pregnant with #2 - hospital question
I would like DC there for the birth if we can still have that at that point. If we can't, our plan is to have one of our parents staying with us before my due date. They don't live near us so we'd have to plan their arrival in advance.
Our absolute last backup plan is to have a friend come watch DC.

Ask your friend, I think she would be more then happy to help out regardless of the time.

Re: Moms pregnant with #2 - hospital question
My mom is flying in from GA to take care of DS while I deliver, unless I go into labor SUPER early in which case I wouldhave either my dad or DH's parents come watch himat our house that way he can get to school in the am (unless it's a weekend and he is at his dad's).

Re: Moms pregnant with #2 - hospital question
I am very lucky that I have family living in Queens and LI. Since I am on bedrest and my awesome MIL is staying with us taking care of DD, she will be here to watch her. If I go into labor before my scheduled c/s and it happens on a weekend, either my aunt who lives 15 mins away or my parents who recently moved out to Suffolk will come and hold down the forth while I go to the hospital. We are so lucky to not have to worry about this. I guess my advice to you would be to ask your mom and the ILs to take turns watching Luca while you are in the hospital. And hopefully all will go well with DD's birth and you will be home in 2 days time.

Re: Moms pregnant with #2 - hospital question
My mom will come get DS in the middle of the night if need be. I could always have my sister or brother come over to watch him if my parents and il's want to go to the hospital.
Then he'll stay at my mom's when they are not at the hospital. DH will take him home with him at the end of each night and drop him back off at my mom's, to come see me the next day.

Re: Moms pregnant with #2 - hospital question
We are very fortunate to have a lot of family around. I will probably wake my tenant or my sister (right next door) up if I go into labor overnight.

Re: Moms pregnant with #2 - hospital question
as of now my sil is taking ds, if not them then my bil and his girlfriend.... my parents have offered but I prefer that they do not so that would only be in an absolute emergency...
we do not believe in people waiting at the hospital so that is not an issue for us... if i go into labor in the middle of the night then they will get a call in the middle of the night... but i have already cleared that with them anyways.... i do hope to labor as long as possible this time around at home....

Re: Moms pregnant with #2 - hospital question
Because I have no family here, I have an army of friends who are going to help out taking Noah to and from school and looking after him while I am in hospital. I am hoping for a very short hospital stay!!!

Re: Moms pregnant with #2 - hospital question
My SIL just informed me yesterday that if i go at night or during the week (and its not a daycare day for DS) then she will drop whatever she is doing and come watch my DS till my mom gets there, since my mom is 45 minutes away. My SIL only lives like 15 minutes away so she can get to me quickly. Plus she has a carseat in her car so she can even take me and my DS to the hospital if I go into labor during the day and just have my DH meet us there from work. She's such a saint, she teaches preschool in the AM three mornings a week and even found people to cover her if she is needed by us during any time.
My mom and step dad are going to be the ones to watch DS for the couple of days I am in the hospital, however my grandparents are very sick, so if my parents arent around due to having to be in florida with them, then I guess my SIL will help us out or my dad. Our hospital also doesnt allow kids under 18. but I am not going to worry about it now, and I know everything will work out OK.

Re: Moms pregnant with #2 - hospital question
DH and I were just talking about this a few nights ago...
We have absolutely no idea what we're going to do when I go into labor. My DD will only be around 13 months old and when I had her, I went into labor at around 10:30pm, and she was born at 2:30am. I have a fear that this labor will go by just as fast or even faster! We might be moving to an area where we dont know anyone at all, so we're really screwed. I may be giving birth to baby #2 all by my lonesome.
