Moms that have been through labor already

Were there any tell tale signs that you were going to go into labor the day(s) before you actually went into labor...
I'm just wondering if there is anything that now looking back, was something that you didn't notice...
I'm feeling discouraged bc I'm feeling not a lot, I don't think I've lost my mucus plug yet...The only thing I've had is some major BM's, a huge burst of energy yesterday and major BH contractions very on and off nothing consistent at all...

Both times I felt "off" the day before and with Jack the morning of. Almost flu-like. I can't explain it, just "off".

In the meantime (ok, don't hit me LOL) just enjoy your last moments. I know when you're at the end and "done" its tough but put your feet up, read a book, watch some TV and maybe even head out for a really nice dinner with your hubby.

Re: Moms that have been through labor already

i had the "nesting" thing a couple weeks before - i was up at 3am cleaning my kitchen - and i thought for sure that was "the" sign. but it wasn't...

at 39w 3 days i was having contractions all day, but they were really no different from the ones i'd been having since 25 weeks (due to "irritable uterus"). i didn't think anything of it.

that night i had a HUGE meltdown. i couldn't stop crying to DH that i was just DONE with this pregnancy. i remember just feeling so TIRED and FRUSTRATED. when the meltdown was over i went to bed.

woke up at 2:30 that morning and had the slightest bit of "bloody show". at 3:07 i had my first active labor contraction, and by 10am he was born.

looking back, it was the crazy emotional meltdown that was the telltale sign for me.

Re: Moms that have been through labor already

I worked the day before I had DS#1. We actually just had lunch with my family, came home, did the deed and then....I started to bleed. I went the hospital and was 4-5 centimeters. I wasn't contracting just bleeding. I thought they were going to send me home because I was 17 days early but they didn't. I got stuck at 6cm and they gave me pitocin.

With DS#2 I was 3 cm on three days earlier and having inconsistant contractions the entire week. Finally that Friday my family told me to just go to the hospital to get checked out. Since I was 4 cm and 1 day past my due date they gave me pitocin again and that was a fast one.

Both experiences were different for me. Neither time my water broke and DS#1 was a little early so I was much more uncomfortable with DS#2.

I would pay attention to if you feel "off", if you are starting to have contractions more frequently and if the baby starts to feel really low.

Re: Moms that have been through labor already

I've wondered the same thing. While my doctor says there was blood in my urine, I haven't noticed any except lots of excess gooey discharge in terms of what may be my "mucous plug".

Also you hear that so many woman never break their water.

I haven't felt in unbearable pain at all really. Uncomfortable, yes, mild aches and pains, yes, but nothing I can't deal with.

The baby has dropped and people around me said they can tell............but overall I just feel "clueless" and like this is going to be a waiting game from here on out.

Re: Moms that have been through labor already

Well I was at work organizing until 11PM the night before. My last day was supposed to be the next day so I assumed I was getting my stuff straight - but I think I was really nesting at the office because I couldn't at home (we were/are under construction).

Other than that, nope - I really didn't realize I was in labor until my water broke around 9:45AM and I gave birth at 10:24. I really just felt off that morning and just thought I had to poop - but I nearly pooped that baby out in my bathroom Chat Icon

Yep! On the way to the hospital in my mom's car!
I woke up at 6AM and thought I was constipated. Tried to go to the bathroom for a bit and by 8:30 or so noticed mucous plug/bloody show. I called my mom who insisted I was in labor and to call the MD. I didn't think so but I called to satisfy her. Then asked me to go to L&D just to make sure everything was OK (I had cramping but it was low and I always thought labor pain was high in the belly so I really thought I just had a bad stomach). Anyway, my mom showed up with my 3 yr old sister around 9:30 and I tried to go to the bathroom again when I realized if I pushed any harder I'd be giving birth. Got in the car, my water broke - go to the hospital a little after 10AM and was 9CM and 100% effaced - 2 pushes - ta dah!

Anyway, sorry to hijack post. The point being - if you're near the end and something doesn't feel right to you - def. worth a call to the MD or trip to L&D - you never know!

Re: Moms that have been through labor already

I didnt notice anything "different". I had been feeling crampy on and off for a while and I had been losing bits and pieces of my MP over time. I had actually felt really well leading up to the delivery. When I woke up that morning I just knew it was the day! I called my mom and told her I felt different. I started having back pain that intensified and could time. It was then that I knew I was in labor.

Good luck! You will get there!Chat Icon

Re: Moms that have been through labor already

I was at home putting together the nursery - the crib, moving the old furniture out, hanging curtains, vaccuming, putting up the blinds, painting the entire room - till 11:30 pm. Went into labor an hour and a half later at 1:00 am. My baby boy was born a few hours later at 6:35 am. Not sure if finally getting the need to organize and finish the nursery is a "sign" but thats what happened. Chat Icon

Re: Moms that have been through labor already

I will be 38 weeks tomorrow and feel totally off right now. I was 1-2 cm last Wednesday. You would think I had a clue. With my 1st I was 6 days late. I dropped the day I went into labor. My water didn't break I just starting having some contractions. I probably could have waited longer but since I was so late and I had no clue we headed to the hospital and they started pitocin the next morning. With my second I was scheduled to be induced 1 day after my due date. I went to bed that night before and was woken my sharp stomach pains. I honestly thought I had to poop or something (sorry TMI). I tried, i couldn't, I walked around, tried to go back to sleep. Woke my DH and we stayed in bed looking at the clock. After 4 regular contractions 5 minutes apart we jumped out of bed and got going since we needed to bring DD#1 to SIL's house. Got to the hospital around 5 had baby at 9.

I am really nervous this time around. We moved and live 40 minutes from hospital. DH works 2 minutes from hospital. If I go when he is at work he needs to come all the home to get me and then we need drop DDs off and go all the way back to the hospital. Chat Icon Really don't want to have this baby in the car....

Sorry for the ramble...I hope you go soon and your labor is quick and easy!

Re: Moms that have been through labor already

The day before I had a ton of energy - I just wanted to walk. I walked on the boardwalk, in my neighborhood and then the morning I went into labor we walked for two hours.

Other than that - I had no other signs - no contractions or MP.

Re: Moms that have been through labor already

My water broke. 8 hours later DD was born. Didn't start having contractions until at least an hour if not more after my water broke. Sorry that doesn't help much!

Good luck!

Re: Moms that have been through labor already

I was two days late and had my regular doctor appointment. I was 100% effaced and 1 cm dilated. When I got home and throughout the day I was spotting but this was the same as my appointment the week before except the spotting did not stop. Nine hours after the appointment I had labor pains and eleven hours later my son was born.

I had BH throughout my pregnancy, painfull enough that I was in L&D twice.

Re: Moms that have been through labor already

I had no Signs at all!!.. I went food shopping the day before and then went out for dinner b/c it was my birthday. Then at 3am I woke up with what I thought was heartburn, took some tums went on LIF and then went back to bed at 5 am.. woke up again at 7:30 am with really bad tummy pains.. thought was having to go potty.. (sorry tmi), then after a few runs to the bathroom finally dawned on me after calling my sister (b/c i was home alone).. that I was actually in labor.

Never saw the mucous plug, never saw water break or felt it.. no signs for me.

Re: Moms that have been through labor already

I had no signs at all, except that my bloody show started the night before while I was at my doc appt. During the appt my doc stripped my membranes. She did this because I was 2 days over due & I only progress 1/2 cm from the previous appt. After the doc appt I went to BRU & CVS and then went home, ate dinner & went to bed. Woke up @ 5am with sharp pains that I quickly realized were contractions......
