Moms who have/had thyroid issues....
Can you please tell me what symptoms you were experiencing that made you decide to get tested?
I am wondering if I should get checked or if I am being a hypochondriac

Re: Moms who have/had thyroid issues....
5 months PP I just didn't feel right. My hair was falling out which I know is normal at that time, but this was CLUMPS. I went for a physical and i had post partum hyperthyroid. It cleared itself up in a few months time.

Re: Moms who have/had thyroid issues....
Very fatigued, itchy and peeling skin on my hands and around nails, constipated all the time, Always cold, Puffy face a lot in the AM and at night and just an achy feeling in hands and sometimes in like joints etc.
All those symptoms come back on me when my numbers are "off"...but there are a lot more symptoms that can be due to thyroid...and also depends on if its hyper or hypo thyroid.

Re: Moms who have/had thyroid issues....
I cannot loose weight to save my life! As a matter of fact, the only time I lost a few lbs was when I ate CRAP. I am constantly having hot/cold flashes. I am going through insomnia fits, sometimes for days on end, I have been having belly issues, I have developed bad dry skin patches here and there, my AF cycles are totally out of whack except this past moth or so, my complexion (skin) is awful....
Does all of this sound normal, or is it something I should check out?
ETA- It just seems as if I am totally "backwards". EX: When I should be upset, I am not phased, but I get extremely upset over dumb, unimportant things. When I diet I gain weight, when I eat crap I loose....

Re: Moms who have/had thyroid issues....
Mine was diagnosed by my RE when I was having fertlity issues....I had had some weight gain and a very irregular AF but since I also have PCOS, many of the symptoms are similar so its hard to say what was caused by what...I am hypothyroid ( and so is my DH who is skinny as a rail )

Re: Moms who have/had thyroid issues....
Rapid weight gain and a feeling of exhaustion that I never had experienced before in my life.
There is a history of it in my family so I was always on the look out.

Re: Moms who have/had thyroid issues....
When I went to the RE at 8 months pp they found my TSH to be a little elevated. I was tired a lot, very irritable (especially before ovulation and before AF), and my cycles were totally out of whack. Since Ive been on the synthoid I've been a lot better, although not 100% yet. I need to get retested to make sure I'm on the right dose. It can't hurt to get tested!!

Re: Moms who have/had thyroid issues....
Mine was diagnosed during a routine physical. You may not always feel the symptoms. Now that I've been dealing with this for a long time I can usually tell when my levels are off and I need my med adjusted. If your a little suspicious then I would go get tested.

Re: Moms who have/had thyroid issues....
I was tired when I was getting a lot more sleep--I started to feel even more tired than right after I gave birth. I was also mildly depressed and just did not feel myself. Cold a lot too.
Go to your doctor and get tested--you are not a hypochondriac, a lot of people develop this and it's very treatable.

Re: Moms who have/had thyroid issues....
Right after having AJ I had my yearly exam and my blood work showed I had hyperthyroidism. Oddly enough I had NO signs of it. Dr. had me tested a few times before starting any meds b/c I was only 6-8 weeks pp. As soon as I got pregnant with Gianna my thyroid flooped to hypo. I had tons of the symptons however, alot of them are the same as pregnancy....fatigue, mood swings, weight gain. etc. I was sent to a high risk OB who was finally able to get my levels normal with Synthroid. Since having Gianna I have been tested quite a few times and my levels are all good now and I am still on the synthroid. If I forget to take the pills a few nights in a row (which I have done a few times) I def. notice a difference. Go get bloodwork done. It wont hurt to be sure.

I went through this checklist and then went to my MD.
Thanks, I thin I willlook into the hypothyroidism, those seem to be at least half of the "symptoms" I am going through. I will call my OBGYN in the am.
It is just a simple blood test, right?

I have had hypothyroidism for 10 years. I was always tired, losing my hair and was just not feeling like myself.
