My SIL does speech therapy both in school and in home. Some of her students and their families she has gotten really close to - they invite her and my brother to dinner, family parties, etc. One of the parents is a financial planner and was teaching them about mortgages, how to invest, etc.

There are other students that she just has a business type relationship with their families. Friendly, but they don't talk about personal stuff and don't socialize.

My son has had the same team for 3 years. We have a wonderful relationship with each of the team members. Speech/oT . He starts k in September....and services will be given in school. i am sad for him to leave these therapists and tried everything for him to continue at home services but did not win. I know I will not have the same relationships with the school specialists.

i pay privately for an slp to do feeding therapy with my ds and i really like her and we have a relaxed relationship. we bounce ideas off of each other and work as a team.

i'm going to start working doing e.i. services in sept. and i hope i have the same relationship with the families i work with.

Re: Moms who receive any type of home service...

Thanks ladies - the reason I ask is because I am "me " for each team, and its interesting to see the different responses from each family. Usually they love me and how I do things - but recently a mom let me go because she felt I was TOO friendly!!! She felt I was more her friend and therapist.... which shocked me because everything I did was to support her with her child. I wanted to see if this happened with anyone else. This was the 1st time in my career (12 years) so really, its not THAT major, but still....Chat Icon
