Moms working full time- Maternity Leave

For everyone who works full time and is taking maternity leave ; what was the MAXIMUM amount of time offered to you by your job (both paid plus unpaid ) ? Even if you didnt take the full time offered I'm curious how long it was.

One year (I think you might be able to apply for an extension to take a second year but I'm not totally sure about that). You only get paid for whatever accrued leave time you already have, or you can keep your time in the bank & choose to go unpaid for all or part of it which is what I did.

This.

My first week was PTO

Weeks 2-6 were disability

Remainder was PTO or unpaid

My company does make exceptions to this on a case by case basis - many people have taken off longer than 12 weeks (obviously unpaid) but, it's subject to HR and manager approval.

Re: Moms working full time- Maternity Leave

For me I only get paid what I have in my sick bank and my accrued vacation time. My vacation calendar runs from September - August, and you can't carry any vacation time over, so I was kind of screwed with my last pregnancy when I gave birth mid-August.

Our disability is 6 weeks for vaginal birth, its paid by using 5 full sick days the first week, and then after that its 1/2 disability and 1/2 sick or vacation time until the end of the 6 weeks. After that it is whatever time I have left until my sick/vacation time runs out. My last pregnancy I took 12 weeks leave, but I ended up getting unpaid about 6 weeks. If I wanted, I could have actually applied for another 4 weeks unpaid but I really couldn't afford it.

This is why I am saving every sick and vacation day as much as possible! As much as I wanted to call in sick yesterday and today, I have a miserable cold/sore throat that I can't take anything for Chat Icon

Work will hold my job for me for 7 months. All of the time I will take is based on whatever sick, personal, vacation days I have saved up. I have enough to cover whatever disability and FMLA (12 weeks) and even a few paid weeks beyond that. I think I can manage to get paid for 4 months Chat Icon and then plan on taking another 2 unpaid. I do have to sit down with our benefits manager to go over everything.

Re: Moms working full time- Maternity Leave

I took 16 weeks. My job offers FMLA which is 12 weeks, and I got paid for however much vacation, sick, and personal time I had (I think it was around 6 weeks worth). Then I got disability for another 6 weeks. I requested an additional 30 day emergency leave because DD was in the NICU for the first 6 weeks and I essentially spent the first 6 weeks of my maternity leave at the hospital. It was granted to me, but completely unpaid.

THIS

I get 12 weeks period. 6 are paid through disability; 2 through my company maternity leave; and I will take the remaining 4 unpaid

there is no extension to these 12 weeks (unless you're on disability before the baby is born). People who have wanted more time have resigned.

Re: Moms working full time- Maternity Leave

Nothing was offered paid. My company- and any company I have worked for- did not offer paid maternity leave.
You could use your personal/vacation and sick time- as much as you had.
The rest was unpaid.
I had just started the company 2 months earlier, so I had nothing accrued yet.
I took off 8 weeks- all unpaid.

I was allowed to take 6 months - the first 12 weeks were paid by the company, the next 14 were unpaid.

We are allowed to take up to 14 weeks. We get paid for 6 or 8 depending on how the baby is delivered - 6 for vaginal, 8 for c/s.

ETA: For the remaining unpaid weeks we are allowed to use personal, sick and vacation time that has accrued up to the point of going out on maternity.

When I had DD, I was paid for 8 weeks because I had a c/s and then I used 2 weeks vacation. So I was not paid for 2 of the 12 weeks I was on Maternity Leave.

I could take 12 weeks FMLA. 6 or 8 weeks would be paid (based on the delivery). The balance of the time would be unpaid unless you wanted to use PTO.

I work for an international company and the leave varies by country you are in. Some of our offices get a year.

I will be given 6 weeks paid, 6 weeks unpaid. I am dying to be able to tell my boss already so I can ask him and HR (whoever answers this) if I can use sick time and vacation time during the other non-paid 6 weeks, but we'll see what they say. Only will be 7 weeks on Thursday so too early to tell them.

Re: Moms working full time- Maternity Leave

For me, at the time I had my son, it came out to just shy of five months. That was all my time saved up, plus what they give you for maternity, some unpaid, etc..... allllll of it, equaled about four months, three weeks.

12 weeks FMLA

I can use whatever hours of sick time I have saved over the years to get paid during the 12 weeks. I think this time i'll end up getting paid about 7 or 8 weeks out of the 12 (if I take the full 12 this time).

12 weeks FMLA is the max. We have disability salary continuation for the 12 weeks. First 4 weeks 100% and last 8 weeks are 75%. This is for disability in general. For pregnancy we would only get the 6-8 wks paid as mention depending on the type of delivery. The last 4-6 weeks would be unpaid unless your dr fills out paperwork that you are still disabled passed the normal 6-8 weeks.

Accrued sick time must be used concurrently with the FMLA. Vacation time can be used to supplement the 75% weeks to get back to 100% or can be used to be paid for the unpaid weeks. Just started this job in sept 2013 so I don't have much vacation time available. I also can't afford to have any unpaid weeks since we are planning to buy a house next yr.

I'll be returning to work after 6-8 weeks.
