Money gift amount for College Graduate. How much would you give?
Hello
My DH's cousin who is around 24 years old is graduating college. I think it's his first year but not sure. The parents of the future grad are throwing a backyard bbq party for him to celebrate.
Our gift will most likely be a money gift. How much money should I put in? I'm thinking $30 but I'm questioning if I should put more in. As far as getting an actual gift instead of money I have no clue so if you have any suggestions please pass that along.
Thanks.
Edit: Ooops I meant to post this in NFR forum.

My underlying "rule" is always give what you can afford, but we also tend to give a bit more depending on how close we are with that person. I think anything within the $30.00-$50.00 range is appropriate.

Graduating this Spring: $50 minimum. Problably $100

That is a great question! When I got the invite it didn't say anything on it. He's a young and honestly didn't even know he was going to college. I have no idea if he's graduating with an associates or bachelors. You know what I'm not sure...does it take 4 years typically to get an associates? I believe he went straight from highschool which would bring him around the age he is now (he could be younger than what I said). That's why I was thinking $30 at first because I'm sure he will graduate again at some point....
I guess I'll try to find out more from DH's sister.

If he is graduating with an Associates degree (2 year college) I would say $30. I personal would give $50 if it is a Bacholers degree (4 year college).

I think it depends how close the student is to you. I would give a crisp $100 bill in a card.

I think $50 is a nice, substantial gift

associates is 2 years
bachelors is 4 years
masters is usually an additional 2-3 years added onto the bachelors
i graduated with my bachelors at 22 and i started right after high school and went straight through. i'll be getting my masters at 25 (took a year off in between my BFA and MST).
for my graduation party i got anywhere from 30-100 (more from my parents). close family gave me more in the 50-100 range.
