Yes, but usually the salary increase from LI to the city more than makes up for the increase. Plus you are saving on gas, so you have to factor that in as well.

Re: Monthly LIRR ticket to the city?
I pay $268 with my unlimited metro card from Bethpage to Penn.
I could not make enough money on LI so I went NYC. They pay more than makes up for the expense.

Re: Monthly LIRR ticket to the city?
Compared to the probably $400 a month I spend on gas to drive to work, it doesn't sound so bad.

Also, if you do Mail & Ride you're saving a tiny bit off that price and if your company offers Wage Works you can definitely save that way too.

Is wage works like transit check? We get that and it saves me about $35-40 on commuting a month.

Not really... the cost of your train ticket (Up to $110) is taken out of your paycheck pre-tax. I save about $20-$20 a month doing this.

That's exactly how transit check works too. Plus getting the vouchers "tricks" me into thinking my train ticket is only $50 since that's how much cash I use.

Re: Monthly LIRR ticket to the city?
Wageworks is similar to Transit Check but, they have a lot more options than just getting a voucher or a debit card. At the end, you save the same whichever program you use.

Re: Monthly LIRR ticket to the city?
Mine is $267 from Ronkonokoma to Penn. I use Wage Works, I get $110 taken out of my check before tax and the rest taken out after taxes. So when I get my ticket each month it just use the credit card they gave me. I don't have to put in anything extra.
