Mothers of small babies, how long did it take for your child to "catch" up in growth?

DS was a little over 6 pounds when he was born. When we left the hospital, he was under 6 pounds. I'm just wondering how long it took other babies to catch up in weight to other babies on the growth charts.

My babies were born at 35.4 weeks. Ronan was 5.14 and Declan was 6.3. At their 4.5 month appt they were both 24.5" R was 13.2(still small) and D was 15.2(average) However I think Ronan has gained about 2 lbs since then as he is waking to eat every 3-4 hours and looks chubbier to me

Every baby is different and I don't really think that it is considered "catching up"

My DS was born at 6lbs and change and he was usually in the 50th percentile, but around 6 months, he dipped down a bit.

He is 2 now and weighs 27 lbs. Clothing wise, he is always "true to size"

Even though Jake was 8lbs at birth, they were saying he was in the 20th percentil at his 1st well visit. At his last 3 mo visit, he is 14 lbs and in the 50th percentile, so he has caught up so to speak. HTH.

DS has not yet caught up. He is 23 months. He is very tall though, but he has never weighed in accordance with the "chart" for his age. He is healthy, active and thriving, so I no longer worry about the chart.

Every baby is different and some are just smaller to begin with. From day 1 my DD was in the 5th percentile for height and weight. Now at 8 she's still in the 5th percentile for both. As long as they're growing proportionatly i wouldnt worry about it.

DD hasn't caught up but maintains her height in the 50th % and weight in the 10-20th %. She is a skinny thing like her father and I am still trying not to compare her food intake to that of her 2 "boyfriends" who are in the 75-95th % for weight!!!!

Remember that not every child will grow at the same rate. Not every child will be big. Not every child will have a mushy belly, chubby cheeks and edible thighs. It was very hard for me to make peace with the fact that I gave birth to a child on the small side and continues to be petite. She has not one roll of fat on her and she eats like a bird. I do not starve her either. Not every child will be in the 95th percentile (as I understood from my "percentile thread" a few weeks back). Abby is 8 months old and weighs 16 pounds and change at 27 inches long. Her pediatricians are just fine with her rate of growth both weight-wise and length wise.

DD was 5 lbs at birth. By her 2 month checkup she was in the 25th percentile for weight and height, where she has pretty much stayed through 15 months.

I had a preemie who was 4 lbs. 11 oz. at birth. He is 7 1/2 months now and weighs 15 lbs. 8 oz. at his appointment last week. He is still considered "small" but he has made leaps and bounds. Remember size doesn't matterChat Icon and Good things come in small packages Chat Icon
