Re: Movie party for 1st grader.....question?
Posted by BargainMama
I wouldn't want my child to be driven around by someone I barely know to be honest. So I don't think that idea would work.
There are cheaper cinemas. Port Jeff Cinema does a party and it's cheap. Like $7.50 a person or something like that, with popcorn and soda. Parents would be charged $5.50 (matinee price). No party room though, but there is a frozen yogurt place next door. ETA, it's -$5.50 per ticket, $2.50 for small popcorn & small soda. 10 person minimum.
I called them. I wanted a party room, but I may just go that route.

Re: Movie party for 1st grader.....question?
It's such a small theater that the parents could just even wait right in the lobby at the tables. There is one way in and one way out (aside from the emergency exits). So in that instance I would feel okay having my child go in without me. I would just wait in the lobby, or go next door and get a frozen yogurt

If I do it there, I would just pay for everyone. It's cheap enough. I just wish they had a room.

I think that's a better idea. At the one movie party I went to, all the kids had parents there, and they did a little playing in the theatre first, then did bagels, then did the movie, then cake and more playing. There was enough room that the movie theatre served as a party room. This was in Merrick.
Good luck! Hope the party turns out great!

We went to a movie party and the parents were included (at least we weren't asked to pay to stay for the movie). The kids got snacks at the movie and the parents just got entrance to the movie. I would not be comfortable leaving my 6 y/o there alone.
I had the same experience and agree totally

Totally rude to tell parents their not included and to pay if they wanted to stay. At 6 I wouldn't leave DC so if this happened to me I would pay and then talk about this to everyone I know.
Wow...aren't you mature for your age!!!
What a complete snob you are!!!

Movie party for 1st grader.....question?
If there was an area where I can have coffee or use my phone/iPad or chat with other parents I would be ok letting my DD watch movie in the theater with her friends & the Mom of birthday child. I dont necessarily have to sit next to her.

Re: Movie party for 1st grader.....question?
We attended a movie party recently. Parents were allowed to stay and I don't think were charged for. I actually did not sit with my DC, I sat in the back (small private theater) or I stood in the back or walked right outside the theater.

Ellwood movie theater is cheap and it does not matter how many people you have... Yes I like the parties at deer park much better because you get to have some interaction and a party room bt I think at that age it is top big of a movie theater to have a drop off party at a movie theater.
I would for the parents that stay.. Do not think it is right to have parents pay to stay at a party I am having..

Movie party for 1st grader.....question?
Sayville Movie Theater has a great package- cheap! All the adults you want included either bagels, pizza, drinks and popcorn are served to the kids and parents while their watching the movie and then time for cake after the movies over. I did this 2 years ago for my then 8 year old and we had a blast and so did the kids.

Re: Movie party for 1st grader.....question?
I went to a party last year with DD, 1st grade and the invite said one child and one adult is included. I wouldn't have left DD there without me and was glad I was there to bring her to the bathroom mid movie twice!

If you don't want to pay for the parents (I don't blame you), I'd save this kind of party for when your DC is older and more likely for parents to be more comfortable with dropping off.
I agree. I wouldn't be comfy leaving my 6 yr old at a movie theater without me and would expect the adult would be included. Mind you, I'd pay if asked to but would find it strange.

When DS was six I would probably have preferred to stay with him, but I wouldn't mind to pay for my ticket. Not at all.

It was a fantastic solo party. This is the way I would go if you are around sayville.
