Was your son ok? Does she do it often? If not I would let it go, if you see her do it again then I would say something!
I agree..

We are monitored at work and I don't want to use my work phone for personal calls. I text all day long.
What can you possibly be texting about all day long? My fingers would fall off!

You have to do what you are comfortable with but I had to say...
I laughed when I read this only because last week when I was holding Lucas the assistant teacher's phone went off...she has that Calabria song on it...and Lucas starting dancing in my arms.
I wonder how often it goes off I didn't say anything though - different situation than yours and it didn't bother me.

I would definitely say something Liza, or ask Emily what the policy is about staff using cell phones while they are watching the kids. I understand if its nap time and they are all asleep, but not when they are up

I have worked in three different day cares/preschools and every one had a no cell phone policy for staff. It was always an issue for the staff that had kids, but we were just told to give your kids/parents the center number and they can reach you there. I personally, would say something. It only takes one second for something to happen, teachers shouldnt have cell phones on, they are major distractions. JMHO
That's the policy at our school. What concerns me the most is that the teacher is distracted and not really putting the focus on the kids.
