Naming both kids something similar (like, Ted and Ned)...thoughts please.......

Ok, I was thinking of boys name just in case and the only one I like is soooooo similar to my first born. They will begin with the first letter and the first half the of the name will sound the same.

(like....Jakob and Jayden...or Jack and Jake)..know what I mean?

my DH says that if we called both down to dinner, it will sound sound nuts...but I don't think so.

What do you all think? Would you? Have you? Regrets?

Not a fan. I personally wouldn't want my kids names too similar sounding but that's just me. Chat Icon

I'm not a fan of names that are too similar. DS's name is Owen and I am PG with another boy. DH and I both like the name Ian, but Owen and Ian sound way too much alike fo rme so its been nixed!

Depending on the names I would.

I wouldn't do Ted and Ned but Jacob and Jayden are completely different.

I'm Diana
My Brother is David
My sister is Daniela

Soo, they're not too similar, but they all start with D. It CAN get confusing..like my mom will call me Daniela, but I think that happens with any siblings, right? I think it's a bit cheesy...My mom used sign cards "Momname, Dadname & the 3 Ds" Chat Icon Chat Icon

But, If you love the names, I say go with it!!

i thnk that if people make the association that "hey, all their names start with X" or "wow, they all rhyme" then its a no go for me.

I personally rule out all names that sound like or rhyme with my existing kids names. (Even if I love the name)

Well DH is Tim and his brother is Tom and I think that combo was pretty popular when they were born.

I'd have to know the two names to really form an opinion though.

Not a fan of that. I'm also not a fan of naming them all starting with the same letter. It's just not for me. It just sounds too "cute" to me. I have nothing against other people doing it. If it makes them happy, that's great! Chat Icon

Not a parent (yet Chat Icon )

But I would not do it.

I always think of the Duggers....or people who have twins and name them similar. I have neighbors that named then Breaden and Brandon.

Would drive me crazy.

We have this too.

I'm Rebecca
Rachael is my sister.
Richard is my brother.

My cousin has 4 boys, Jaden, Jacob, James, and Jared. Her husband's name is Jason. I think it gets a little crazy after a while.

Same here.
I know someone who named their twins Taylor and Tyler and that just made me cringe! But I'm not opposed to two names starting with the same letter.

I'm like 99% sure I know what your other screename is and for the love of pete I can't think of any name that remotely sounds like your ds name( of course if you are who I think you are). I mean, there is one but I think I'm way off on the one name.

To me, Jack and Jake sound way too similar, but Jacob and Jayden would be fine. I'm not opposed to names starting with the same letter, but Ned and Ted, Jack and Jake, Brendan and Brayden, things that really sound a lot alike would be a no go for me.

My friends kids are the equivalent of Daniel and Samuel and she gets the names confused all the time Chat Icon Then again, my mom has called me by both of my BROTHER'S names at one point or another, so I'm not sure if that would happen regardless of their names.

They aren't similar, but I have two friends with funny situations like this...

One friend has two kids, Max & Ruby. She has never seen Max & Ruby.

And another has Bill & Ted & Hugh. I never asked about Bill & Ted, but it makes me laugh!

My grandsons are Sullivan and Donovan and only 16 months apart. I told my DD when they get older everyone is going to think they're twins

She could care less what people think. She liked them and used them.Chat Icon

It's not for me. I encountered it for the first time @ work a few mos ago. A woman has boy/girl twins, the boy is Ryan and the girl is Rylee. Someone @ the dmv goofed and it left us with a huge mess.

eta: if we have another child, either boy or girl, the name will start with L, but they don't sound like Logan. Just happens that we like 2 more L names! Chat Icon

I think siblings' names should correlate somehow, but "matching" is too much. What I mean is, if you chose to name your daughter Brunhildah, don't name your son John or Greg. Name him something crazy as well. Chat Icon

I do see having two chidren whose names sound almost the same leading to all sorts of problems...
