Need CPSE help :(
I signed the consent for my sons Evals nov 26. All evals completed by end of dec. STILL have not had a meeting yet. I called my agency who blamed the district. I called the district who blames the agency. Now no One is calling me back. I am going to lose my $hit. Everyone says it's no big deal because his bday is June and he will be in EI till august 31. But it is a big deal to me because he will need a center and he has two typical triplet brothers and I want them in the same school. There are not a whole lot of good integrated programs nearby and they fill up fast. I have a school Informally holding three spots but it's not official till I have my meeting. I started this process early so I would have options. By my accounts they are way out of the 45 day compliance right!?? What can I do??

Re: Need CPSE help :(
I would email the CPSE chairperson or some special ed administrator, stating all the dates, and asking for when the meeting will be taking place. It's the district's responsibility. Put everything in writing...so they have to respond in 'writing" ! It's the golden rule of special ed.....

Re: Need CPSE help :(
I thought they had 60 days to complete the evals and hold the meeting?? Do you have a service coordinator currently through EI? Maybe see if your service coordinator can contact someone at the district office if they are not calling you back.. I'm sorry that this has been so frustrating for you.

Re: Need CPSE help :(
Thanks! I have heard 60 school days and 45 but I can't seem to get anyone to definitively tell me. I thought it was 45 for the meeting and 60 to implement the IEP but I'm not sure...

Re: Need CPSE help :(
I can't prove it but I think what is happening is that the district is giving the agency meeting dates and that the agency is scheduling at their discretion. I say this because I had a meeting date of jab 25 that was rescheduled by the district due to snow. It was the agency who reached out to me to schedule. When they called to tell me the district had canceled they said to me "don't worry, he will get the next date, we won't bump him." I was like what does that mean? Anyway I called the agency last week and they said they hadn't heard back from the district and there was nothing they can do. So I called the district who said they never had a record of us ever having a meeting date and they were so sorry about the delay and they totally understood the urgency on my end. The administrator said she would call the agency last Monday and hopefully schedule for this Friday. I left a message for my agency yesterday and nada.

It's 60 school days from Nov 26 (when you signed consent) to hold the meeting not implement the IEP. Call the SDs chairperson of Preschool Special Ed. And ask when his meeting will be. The agency who evaluated does not schedule CPSE meetings for the district.

This is what I was confused about as well. I believe all my district's CPSE office needs from the agency who is evaluating my DS are the reports. But they pretty much gave me my meeting date when I first dropped off the paperwork and signed evaluation consent forms.

Need CPSE help :(
My school district scheduled the meeting & sent me a confirmation letter. Why do you think it's the agency?
Call your dist special Ed dept.

Re: Need CPSE help :(
That's what I thought too but The agency is the one who called me with my meeting date in january and called me to let me know it had been canceled. They also are the ones who told me "don't worry, we won't bump him, you will get the next date they give us."
And when I spoke to the district, they said they had no record of our prior meeting date, and then said "oh, xxxx (the agency name) probably scheduled it."
So weird.
I also spoke to the district special Ed administrator directly and she said she would talk to the agency about having the meeting this Friday. I called the agency to follow up and let them know what the district said and I have not heard back.

Re: Need CPSE help :(
Also if it's 60 school days then that is pretty much next week or they are out of comiance. Do they generally care if they are not in compliance?

I'm so confused. I found this on the NYc schools website and it says 45 days. I'm in queens. Maybe it's different in Nassau?
