need decorating advice - kitchen
Please take a look at the photos on my profile page. White cabinets, brick backsplash (and I'm not interested in painting it - I like it). I'm thinking of replacing existing ugly paneling with white beaded board. The counter tops and the walls needs to be replaced. Ideas?
I was thinking bright yellow walls and a navy-colored counter top. BF seems to think that will be ugly.
Thanks!

since the brick is dark, I think a lighter counter top would look nice. Not a fan of the navy blue. I feel it will close it in too much.

Are you planning to keep the wallpaper in the dining room? What colors do you have in there. I would work with the same color pallet. I agree that navy blue counters will close you in and really stand out. I would go softer on the counter color.

I'm not digging the navy countertops or yellow walls...
Here is a pic I've found that looks similar to yours:
Looks like dark brown butcher block:
So I think if you did a dark brown counter-top with the beadboard - you'd get the country look you're going for.
It also seems like you're going for a more 'french' country look with the yellow and navy - but you can add that with linens and accessories.

ITA with Jenn. Love the pick you found Jenn. It's a really nice look and add some beadboard. Very nice.
I would stay with earth tones since you want to keep the brick red. A nice light Sage green would be really nice. You could find a counter top with greens and beige in it to bring it all together. But nothing dark, stay lighter on the counter tops. IMO! GL!
Actually I have one question, what style are you going for? Country, French Country, not country at all?

Re: need decorating advice - kitchen
Thanks for all of the advice. I do really like the idea of the dark butcher block and the ideas for colors. I always liked the way yellow and navy worked together, but sometimes I have trouble visualizing things... I want to try and keep the colors light because I only have windows on one side of the condo (southern exposure, which is good, but still not enough light to keep the kitchen very bright). There are some open houses in the complex next week that I might go check out just for decorating ideas.
