Re: Proabably Being Excessed (Nassau) - Questions About My Rights
I was excessed last year and collected unemployment. I am not sure if you will be able to collect if you turn a job down. One of the questions when you claim your benefits is if you have rejected a job...if you answer yes, you may not be able to collect. Also, unemployment has contacted my district. Your district will tell them that you turned down a job...

I figured as much. Makes sense. Did you eventually get your job back?

Re: Proabably Being Excessed (Nassau) - Questions About My Rights
Same boat - laid off last year - if u are recalled to your old tenure position - it would be in your best interest to take it, otherwise they skip you and keep going down the list till someone accepts - that person who accepts will earn seniority and may move ahead of you - meaning you will be less likely to be called earlier than others next time. if it is part time, per diem - i believe (not 100% certain), but i belive you can refuse a per diem position and continue on unenployment
good luck!

I understand, but if I don't have child are in place I really feel that i won't have a choice. I Don't have family in the area that can help me out and I won't just hire anyone so I can go back to work. Kwim?

you still have 5 months to find child care. i think it would be foolish to give up a job

Positions often open up in August or September even after the start of the school year. In a case like that I wouldn't have 5 months to find child care, but thanks for your input.
