New Job Search While Pregnant
Hello Ladies,
I just found out that I am pregnant 5 weeks today. Before I found out I was pregnant I was looking for a new job. This is my dilemma i have been at my job for 6 years and we have 6 weeks vacation and you can bank up to a 100 sick days a year and we have good health insurance. I don't know if I should leave my job until I have the baby since I have a good realtionship at my job. The problem is with my job I not making a enough money and I have alot of student loans I have to pay back. I took vacation this week and have applied to alot of jobs and I have a lot responses and they are willling to pay more money like $20,000 more in salary. I don't know what I should do? I feeling sick and when I was pregnant before I took alot of sicks days and got paid for them. Please help me.

Re: New Job Search While Pregnant
hi congrats, I think you maybe should stay at your job until the baby is born, with those kind of benefits you could stay home with your baby and get paid, and youwont have to worry about taking off for doctor appointments, and then after the baby is born lokk for a new job, if you get a new job now youmay not be elegible for maternity leave or benefits.

Thanks that what I was thinking? Right now I can go to the dr's without a problem. If I start a new job they may not be as flexible.

Re: New Job Search While Pregnant
I decided to wait until after the baby is born to find a new job. I already have decent benefits, and I know I'll get maternity leave. And they have no problem with all my doc appts. So I decided to wait it out.
I also didn't want to start a place, and then have to take 3 months off soon after starting. Didn't think anyone would hire me.

It's best to stay until after you have the baby, for the reasons listed above. At least you like your job!

i agree w/the other posters...stay, with those perks, money won't always be the most important thing at a job. use ur vacation time/sick days after the baby's birth then move onto another job, if that's what you wish

Re: New Job Search While Pregnant
With the benefits you currently have, I would stop looking for a new job. First, chance are even if it's more $$$ each week, you will wind up with a lot of unpaid sick/leave time. Second, FMLA is only available if you've worked a full year, so even if you got a new job, once out on maternity they wouldn't have to keep the job open for you and you could wind up completely unemployed.

If you start a new company you probably won't have the vacation to take off the time you need. You need to figure out if the increase in salary will compensate for the days you won't be getting paid.
