New Mommies.. (and Pros..) How do you sleep?
Today is first day home and I'm afraid to leave her alone. In the hospital someone was always watching her.
How do you sleep?

Re: New Mommies.. (and Pros..) How do you sleep?
I had DD in a co-sleeper right next to my side of the bed until she was 4 months.
Then she went into the crib and the 1st few nights were definitely a little restless, but eventually you just relax.
(it gets easier )

same dd slept in cosleeper next to me for 5m and then we used the video monitor when shes in her crib. Its hard the first week or so then you start to feel more relaxed.
If your dc is in crib right away, i know a few moms had talked about some blanket thing that went on the crib mattress that had a detector built in if it didnt feel the baby move it would go off.. not sure the name tho.

Re: New Mommies.. (and Pros..) How do you sleep?
It DOES get easier, I agree. But you'll be amazed how, even if you're completely exhausted, you'll hear every little peep.
I agree with Chelle-- keep her close by, that way you can peek at her w/o getting out of bed.
Do you have the Angelcare monitor? I swear by that thing, it is the only reason I slept those first few months...I knew it was supposed to alert me if something went wrong.
Good luck

Re: New Mommies.. (and Pros..) How do you sleep?
You dont ha ha only kidding. We had DD in a cradle next to the bed for the first 6 months then moved her to a crib and had the monitor to watch her - need not have worried as she was back in the room with us pretty soon after that.
You will get into your own system and you will relax over time. .A monitor is a great investment if you dont already have one as it does give you peace of mind.
Congrats on your new baby and enjoy every second

Re: New Mommies.. (and Pros..) How do you sleep?
For the most part, i sleep pretty well. I have the video monitor and that helps A LOT! My son has slept in his crib since day 1.
Yes i do hear every little peep, but having the hand held video monitor next to me makes it easier. Plus you get used to the different sounds that they make.

Re: New Mommies.. (and Pros..) How do you sleep?
I didn't sleep well for the first 3 months. I was up at every single sound. DD was in a cradle in our bedroom but that didn't seem to matter. I was just a nervous wreck! I'll be more relaxed this next time around but I think for first time moms you can't help but be anxious.

If it wasn't for the angelcare monitor I would get no sleep.

Re: New Mommies.. (and Pros..) How do you sleep?
We had DD in her crib right away. Mind you, we were in a tiny apt., so I could hear her very easily. I didn't sleep very well for the first 2 months. I woke up at every peep.
But really, it was just the first month that was so rough. I didn't trust the baby monitor so I slept on the couch outside her room. It took me 2 weeks to move back into our bedroom and trust that I'd wake up from the monitor. It gets easier!! I promise! Welcome to motherhood.

Re: New Mommies.. (and Pros..) How do you sleep?
DD slept with me in a co-sleeper thing. I didn't sleep a lot though to be honest! Between waking up for feedings and taking forever to fall back asleep, I was a walking zombie for a while!!

i know it's hard. and it's weird to to have to keep listening for the baby. i found it stressful too, but like anything you will get used to it for sure. it takes time. this is a HUGE HUGE change and adjustment. just know that you are doing a great job, you are in the same house as her and she is going to be ok! i only have a sound monitor and for me it was better actually b/c i think that i would have been obsessed with the video one.

Re: New Mommies.. (and Pros..) How do you sleep?
Well I put both kids in the crib the first night. I had no problem sleeping (is that awful??) they were both up every couple of hours anyway - so I took advantage of every minute I could close my eyes.
I have video monitors and could hear them breathing with the sound way up. However like I said, by the time I got them fed and changed and asleep, they were awake within 2 hours tops.
Try not to worry too much, if they need you they will CRY
and more importantly CONGRATS

Re: New Mommies.. (and Pros..) How do you sleep?
DD was in a bassinet do not think in our room with the angelcare monitor, but I still constantly looked into make sure she was still there and ok. Then, at four months she moved to her crib and the video monitor is wonderful. I doubt most parents sleep soundly, but you will eventually sleep better!

DS slept right next to me in the bassinet until he was about 3 months old. It does get easier. During the day he was in another bassinet downstairs in the den with me.

I didn't sleep well until I purchased the Angelcare monitor. It gave me peace of mind that her breathing was being monitored without me needing to watch her constantly.

Re: New Mommies.. (and Pros..) How do you sleep?
Both Lily and I were blessed with the gift of sleep...thankfully!! But during the day, it's almost better for there to be noise when the baby is sleeping....they're really deep sleepers at that age, so most noise won't wake them! Many infants have issues with confusing their days and their nights (from time spent in the uterus), and keeping the noise levels up during naps, and down during the night can help them to distinguish between night and day. As for you sleeping while the baby is.....that takes time for you to get used to the baby being around! It's all new and it WILL happen in time!

Re: New Mommies.. (and Pros..) How do you sleep?
Angelcare monitor..... For the first few months, one of us would sleep in DS's room, so the other of us could sleep. I would take weekends, and DW would take weekdays. Once you start to realize how fine they are sleeping, it gets much easier. You WILL sleep, whether your mind wants to or not.... your body will find a way, and eventually your mind will follow.

Re: New Mommies.. (and Pros..) How do you sleep?
We had a bassinet next to our bed. I found it was the easiest since I BFd too.
My advise is too sleep as much as you can when the baby sleeps.
The 1st 2 weeks were rough, then you get "used to it".

Re: New Mommies.. (and Pros..) How do you sleep?
At night she slept in the pnp bassinet next to my bed. In the first few weeks I had my hand on her chest while we slept so that I could feel her breathing. DH thought I was crazy.
We moved her to her crib at 10 weeks. At first I would stare at the video monitor waiting for something to happen. Now we don't even turn the video monitor on. But I never close her door all the way. DH and I both have hearing losses and I just couldn't risk not hearing her.
I honestly can't imagine that I will ever shut her door all the way, but my bedroom door was never closed either when I lived at home.

Re: New Mommies.. (and Pros..) How do you sleep?
I had DS in the pack and play in our room, and STILL had the video monitor on him so that I could investigate every peep that was made in the dark.
Yeah, I'm one of those moms........

Re: New Mommies.. (and Pros..) How do you sleep?
I didint at first, then it slowly gets easier...exhaustion sets in.
I still had him next to me in a bassinet and left the TV on all night in our room so I could "See " him in the dark.

Re: New Mommies.. (and Pros..) How do you sleep?
I'll be honest I barely slept for the first few days at home. I was a wreck. Finally my body gave in & I began to sleep when DS was sleeping. I would have him right nect to me in the co-sleeper.
It gets easier Veronica, I promise
