I'll be honest I barely slept for the first few days at home. I was a wreck. Finally my body gave in & I began to sleep when DS was sleeping. I would have him right next to me in the co-sleeper.

It gets easier Veronica, I promiseChat Icon

I totally agree! I had DS in a bassinet right next to me till about 4 months soI could always watch and hear him. Do you have a pack and play or a co-sleeper that you can set up next to your bed? It does get easier and eventually your body will BEG for sleep and you will have no choice but to give in! When Arianna sleeps, crawl into your bed and close your eyes. Trust me, you will hear every peep she makes. It will get easier and CONGRATULATIONS AGAIN VERONICA!!!!! Chat Icon

We had DS in our room in a PNP bassineet for the first two months.

After two months we moved him to the crib in his own room and used a video monitor.

Even with the monitor I was paranoid. I would lie down staring at the video picture and literally pass out from exhaustion.

Eventually you learn to relax. Chat Icon

Re: New Mommies.. (and Pros..) How do you sleep?

I didn't sleep well at all at first. I was a crazy woman...constantly thinking about what I could do/should do/checking on the baby. I think it passed after a week or two. I was still up every 2-3hrs for feedings, but I was at least able to sleep a little better. Oddly enough, those first two weeks home I wasn't THAT tired even though I wasn't sleeping. I think I was just so happy and excited to have the baby kwim? Don't worry, eventually you'll sleep b/c you'll be too tired not to!

If it wasn't for the angelcare monitor I would get no sleep.

ITA. DS never slept during the day unless we held him. At night with the angelcare monitor I was able to sleep without worrying if he was breathing.

You don't!Chat Icon

You surprisingly agjust. My DH used to say that he was not that tired since his residency....I told him, "who was he kidding he got more sleep during the residency."Chat Icon

It gets better though, the 1st month was the worst! Even now Kailey is starting to wake up 1x a night. But she used to sleep through the night for monthsChat Icon

We used an arms reach co-sleeper, up until last week, when we finally put her crib together and transitioned her into her own room.

we roll the bassinet into the living room during the day and that is where she sleeps after her feedings.

At night she is in the bassinet wth us in the room.

As PP said, even as tired as you can possibly be, you manage to wake up at any little sound.
