New Moms - How much does your DC eat?

Emerson will be 10 weeks on Friday and since she started sleeping through the night last week (from about 11:30-12:00 to 8:00am) she has been much, much hungrier during the day. Before sleeping through the night she was taking 4 1/2oz bottles every 3 or so hrs. but then we bumped her to 5oz, then 5 1/2oz. and I think she needs to bump to 6oz. now. From what I have read at this age that amount of formula is fine but I was curious as to what your DC was eating at each feeding and how often. Thanks! Chat Icon

Re: New Moms - How much does your DC eat?

I have found that since my DD has started sleeping thru the night [she is 7 weeks] she is also eating more. She was taking 5.5 oz. every 3-4 hours but still seemed hungry. I bumped her up to 6oz. today and she finished every bottle except her last bottle at 8:30pm. I also noticed she was kind of cranky during the day and was eating closer to every 3 hours. We'll see how she does the next few days...

Hey, I noticed the crankiness too!!! I'm going nuts!! Emerson has always been mellow and happy since she was born and in between feedings she either slept or played. Now since she's sleeping through the night I find that throughout the day she is happy for about an hour after her bottle then she starts getting very fussy and cranky. She cries and pouts and then she just barely makes it to the 3hr. mark for the next bottle. That's why I'm thinking of bumping her to 6oz. I guess I have to sacrifice a little.........a crankier baby during the day but a nice, long 8hrs. of sleep for me at night. I will take the sleep!! Chat Icon

She could be cranky around the 3 hour mark b/c she is tired? I know it is hard for me to figure out whether my DD is hungry or tired, both cries seem like the same!

Re: New Moms - How much does your DC eat?

about that time AJ jumped from 3-4oz each feed to 5-6oz each feeding! Piglet!

She dropped off and at 14weeks she's just now getting back to those 6oz bottles.

I use that 2.5 rule. Their weight times 2.5 equals minimum oz each day. She hits that so Im ok.

And yes, definately around 10weeks she figured out time vs cranky equals food! Chat Icon
