newborn acid reflux question
How did you know your baby had acid relux? What were the symptoms? How does the Dr diagnose it as reflux? Shaun does this thing at night lately where he starts drinking and then starts crying...then starts drinking then cries...it repeats itself till he's does with his bottle. He doesnt really do it during the day. So I'm wondering if his tummy is bothering him. Also how was the reflux treated? DS is on Enfamil Gentlease powder. TIA

Re: newborn acid reflux question
Every bottle was how you described..it was torture feeding him.. then he'd arch his back.. it' was horrible. no spit up though.. he had silent reflux. Dr. diagnosed by my symptoms.. he went on Zantac.
Oh yeah and like Bethanny...he would cry after he burped

DD was the same way. She would shake her head back and forth as she ate. Like it hurt her, but shewas hungry so she had to eat. It was rough.
We switched formulas, per the peds instructions. After the soy formula didn't work, we went to nutramgin. She gets that and we pt rice cereal in it. She will still throw up a bit, but nowhere near what she was doing.

DS spits up after he eats. He also arches his back and his face turns red. His Ped said he has reflux and then we took him to a GI that said the same.

Re: newborn acid reflux question
DD has a mild case. Hers is mostly spitting up. The Dr. calls it a "happy spitter". I am not a "happy mommy". The spit up is insane. And when she burps she cringes as if in pain. I have yet to medicate her...Im waiting to see if it eases on its own. Shes 5 months now and it has gotten a LITTLE better, but its still a nightmare.

Re: newborn acid reflux question
yes, sounds like reflux
KJ would arch his back suck feverishly at the bottle and then break away, repeat, repeat
he was MISERABLE, cried for hours on end
He had silent reflux so he never spit up (which is a classic but not a required sympton of ar)
I would place a call to the ped, they can put him on meds

he's not crying for hours a day....but at the same time of day every day he cries for a while. But then he stops and goes to sleep. I feel like a paranoid new mom - I just want to make sure I'm doing whats best for him.
