Newborn and VERY dry skin, which lotion would you recommend?

My DS has very dry skin, especially around his face/head area, my ped told me to leave it alone for now (a week ago) . But I just gave him his first bath and his skin peeling and flaking all over.
I don't remember what I used with my DD or what is out there now. I do have C-rave lotion at home (the blue bottle) I use for DD, this lotion is great but not sure if I can use on a newborn. I also have Johnson's natural lotion , a sample and Aquaphore (spl) can I use one of these or should I have DH pick up something else? I really din't want to call my ped for this and google has million brands, lol.
Thanks

Cetaphil cream (in the tub) I've used it on DS since he was little and have never had an issue.

Maybe try a different soap also. I tried the Johnson's natural and DD got very flaky. I switched to aveeno creamy soothing wash and she's better. I use aveeno lotion on her after baths but other than that I don't put anything on her.

Aquaphor and when we went back in we were given a steroid cream. We now alternate and do aquaphor during the day and steroids at night. He has eczema pretty bad :(

Re: Newborn and VERY dry skin, which lotion would you recommend?

Aquaphor (in the tub - otherwise its a pain)
Cetaphil (its ok, i have some in my purse at all times but aquaphor REALLY gets into it in my opinion)

I would wash her dab her dry (not rub) and while she was still moist SLATHER her in Aquaphor, head to toe then put on long jammies to keep her from sticking to things LOL.

Did this for over two years. as a baby it was a full body massage after a bath. as she got older she'd sit and let mama rub her down arms and legs. for awhile she'd help out and rub it into her belly. Chat Icon

Unfortunately now its a struggle. I only need to really watch her legs and inner elbows but she HATES lotion (auntie over does it, I think).

DD has terrible skin. We only use soap in baths every other day and then the only soap we ever use is Cetaphil. Also second the Aquaphor. I slather her in that every night after bath/before bed and it makes a huge difference.

I would use cetaphil for soap and either aquaphore or coconut oil like someone else mentioned. I started using it myself actually.

If it is still dry after a week, try eliminating dairy from your diet is you are nursing.

Cerave Cream (not lotion). I buy the tub of it from Target. Expensive, but lasts such a long time.
