Newborn Clothes...

Just wondering... how many newborn outfits do you have? I am worried that the baby won't fit into them. I have a lot of 0-3, do you really need newborn?

Re: Newborn Clothes...

I only had the one DS wore home from the hospital - returned the rest. He was over 9 lbs, so he was pretty much in the 0-3 month stuff right away.

If you don't mind returning, buy a few and keep the tags on until you have the baby. If the baby will fit into them, ask someone to wash them while you are in the hospital. If not, you can return them.

Re: Newborn Clothes...

LOL!

I was soooooooooooo concerned that I had too many that people were getting us. Well, peanut was born at 6lb 1oz & 19.5in long and the NB stuff is HUGE on her, so she should get more use out of them then I thought. 0-3 should get even more use too.

Re: Newborn Clothes...

With my DD, I never bought anything in the NB size. (She weighed 7lbs 2ozs when we left the hospital) Although the 0-3 month stuff was a little big on her, she grew into it pretty quickly & I didn't see the need to buy things in NB sizes. This time around I'll do the same.

Re: Newborn Clothes...

I just bought 0-3 mo for my SIL (I became an aunt again this week Chat Icon )

Grace is just over 6lbs, so she'll be in those clothes for a little while.... I was also afraid that newborn would only work for a week or 2.

Re: Newborn Clothes...

I had virtually no NB clothes and didn't think I needed them b/c Ryan was predicted to be high 7s/8lbs. He came 10 days early and was 7lb8oz. He lost 8oz already and NB is plenty big on him - I had to send SIL to buy him a bunch of outfits. We now have 12-15 outfits but he pees through a lot of stuff and so that only lasts 3-4 days. I would get a good amt of NB clothes.

Re: Newborn Clothes...

DD was 7.5 pounds, so pretty average size, and was in newborn onesies for probably the first month. I didn't have enough so my MIL bought us some more.

I say if you're worried about having too many, buy some, and keep them in the package w/the receipt. If you don't end up needing them, you can return them for a larger size.

Re: Newborn Clothes...

DS was 7lbs 3 oz when he was born. At his checkup last Wed he was up to 7lbs 5 oz and the newborn clothes are the only ones that really fit him. I have a couple newborn things that I keep washing and putting him back in. He can wear the 0-3 clothes that are one piece outfits with zippers, but the separates are huge on him, especially the pants.

Re: Newborn Clothes...

Depends so much on the size of your baby and even when they have growth spurts. I had a 4 lb 12 oz preemie. We needed tons of preemie clothes and then newborn clothes and then when it was time for him to wear the 0-3 month size, he only stayed in that size for like 2-3 weeks and that was the size we had so much of.

Some of the newborn clothes fit until he was 11-12lbs, depending on how it was cut.
