Newborn Clothes question.
Ok, so last night in my child birthing class the nurse said about the newborn not wearing onsies until the umbilical cord falls off the newborn. When I did my layette the woman also added those half shirts for newborns to wear, but then all the clothes were onsies. Does that mean I can put the baby is the little snap undershirt and a onsie over it or they both have to be separate? Hope that makes sense.

Re: Newborn Clothes question.
I remember with my 3 nephews, my SIL used the half shirts & then the onesie PJ's all day until the belly button healed. Once that happened, the boys went into onesie undershirts & onesie outfits.

I put DD in a onesie to come home from the hospital and every day since (she will be 3 weeks old tomorrow) - her cord was just fine and fell off at 2wks olc

Re: Newborn Clothes question.
at my hospital we put the newborns in the half shirts, and hats. It doesn't affect the umbilical cord.

my brother and sil did the same thing - it had no affect on their daughters' cord. it's a total personal preference!

My DD wore onesies starting the day she came home from the hospital, her cord was fine. It fell off when she was a week and a half. She went to bed and it was still there, and by the time I changed her diaper a few hours later, it was gone! :)

Re: Newborn Clothes question.
The half shirts the usually put them in at the hospital. When i took my DD home and after that we rarely used them just onesies. As long as the onesies are not too tight and pulling on the umbilical cord it shouldnt be a problem.

Re: Newborn Clothes question.
onesie from the start is what i did. Really the umbilical cord fell off just fine. You are not suppose to get it wet, you dont have to let it be exposed to air though, it doesnt speed things up any. Its just a scab, keep it dry and your fine. Babies dont exactly work out a sweat so onesies work perfectly well
