Newborn sleeping question...

All this kid does is sleep. Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining, but he fell asleep after out ped appointment at 2, I woke him for a eeding at 5:30, he went back down at 6 and has been sleeping since. It;s rare that he's just awake and hanging out. He only wakes twice during the night (usually around 2 and then again around 5) and doesn't fuss for anything. He is sound asleep - arms above the head, heavy breathing, mouth open - the works Chat Icon

I'm probably going to regret even questioning this in a few weeks Chat Icon but for now, I have no idea what's normal. Chat Icon

Re: Newborn sleeping question...

Yup. Thats what happens. DD was the same. Asleep almost all of the time, except for feedings, changings, etc. And hard to wake up sometimes too, even for feedings!

Isn't amazing that even though they sleep so much, taking care of newborns is still exhausting?! Chat Icon

You mean that I don't actually have a miracle baby on my hands? Chat Icon Chat Icon He won't stay this sleepy until he's like 5? Chat Icon

Seriously, though - when do they start to "wake up"

Oh - and should I wake him to feed him? I know the old saying of never wake a sleeping baby, but what if he goes past his normal 3-3.5 hour threshold for feeding? Chat Icon

You're not breastfeeding right? If not then I would let him sleep and feed him when he wakes up!

And, you of course have a miracle baby on your hands! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Nope - not BF-ing, although my boobs would like to argue that point.

Ok, so I'll let him sleep and then feed him. I hate the unpredictability. I like order and schedules. I guess I should surrender that fantasy, huh? Chat Icon

Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon For now, you have to just go with the flow and follow his lead. A few months from now James will be on a schedule with the best of them! Jack is down to the minute with things!
