Newborn with gas...
my two week old is very uncomfy with gas. She is having bowl movements about every 2 days. The ped said it was normal for her to not poop for 2,3, 4 days. I told him she is uncomfy b/c of the gas. I asked about switching the formula and he didn't suggest it. Anything i can do for her?

Re: Newborn with gas...
what formula is she on???? If she is that uncomfy i would try to switch regardless of what your ped. says. My DS will be 2 weeks on monday and I switched his formula right out of the hospital without ped. advice.
I would try Gentleease, Similac Sensitive or Good Start. They are all supposed to help with fussiness and gas.

Re: Newborn with gas...
We had this problem with DS. We changed his formula to the Gentlease. He is now on the Target brand or Sam's Club brand that is equivalent to Gentlease. Our pediatrican said that as long as we didn't change to soy, we could try different ones fro 7-10 days a time until we found one that worked.
We also gave him Mylicon as well. Some people put it in the bottle but we just gave it to him directly out of the dropper. It helped a lot too.
If you feel like your DD is constipated you can also try 1/2 ounce water with 1/2 ounce prune juice every other day until it gets easier for her to go. This is the dose our ped. recommended.

Re: Newborn with gas...
ALexa was CRAZY gassy. I received A LOT of antibiotics during my labor because I was GBS positive so it basically wiped out all of her good GI gut flora that helps to break down and process food and gas therefore causing and abnormal build up of gas.
I put her on an infant pro-biotic and in 36 hours she was SOOOoo much better.
She gets her probiotic everyday and we've never had gas issues since.....

Re: Newborn with gas...
I recommend what everyone else has already said.
My DD had major gas and pooping issues. We gave her Mylicon (straight from the dropper) with every bottle. When she was extremely fussy we would give her the gripe water which seemed to help a little. We would give her a little bit of prune juice in one bottle daily to help with the pooping issues (recommended by the ped).
We also switched her formula - we didn't even ask the ped. We switched her formula 3 times before we determined she needed Alimentum. She was on Alimentum until 3 months and then we switched her to Good Start, which she did great on.

Re: Newborn with gas...
We switched to drop ins due to the gas pains my DD had. Pushing all the air out of the bottle really helped her.
