newborns or kids with eye issues ? insight needeD
Baby has one eye that appears to be more slanted and smaller than the other, which is rounder and larger. It is most notable when he looks at me in a certain direction when he moves his eyes. Sometimes he will shut the slanted eye and look at me with just the other eye. I am not sure if that is just normal sleepy newborn behavior or what. I asked ped in hospital and he said it could be nothing, and if it is something, it is likely not serious. When he went to his first check up in the office, the other ped didn't mention it at all. Has anyone had a similar experience? What was done or what was the out come?

DD had what looked like a lazy eye. One eye seemed to slant inward and was smaller and more slanted as you described.. Took her to ped opth and it turned out to be this
http://www.aapos.org/faq_list/pseudostrabismus
Could that be it?
Now that she is older (14 months)- its much much better and almsot totally resolved.

thanks for the link! I will look at it later, as I'm posting from my phone at moment. My mother thinks it may be a lazy eye. I know the doc said most people don't have the same shaped eyes if you look close enough and he didn't seem to think it was a big deal, but of course its so different when its your own kid. Thanks for sharing that it got better though! If this is the only issue he will have, I will take it!

Its very common for young children to have the appearance of lazy eye when in fact it is not. Its the bridge of their nose that is not developed and gives off that effect, or something along those lines. Dont worry! Im sure its nothing!

It may probably be nothing but you never know. My DD, who was a preemie, has a few eye "issues," including strabismus aka lazy eye. I had no idea the multitude of eye "issues" that an infant can have since I have never had any. I say this to suggest you visit an opthamologist for peace of mind. The earlier eye "issues" are identified the easier they are to correct and minimize the long term damage. Being a preemie was probably the biggest contributing factor to DD's eye problems but genetics can also play a role. DD will likely need to be operated for the lazy eye but we are patching until then (about 6 weeks).

I was going to write the same exact thing. We even had Jack checked out by an eye doctor and he told us the above.
If in a few months you notice that the baby doesn't focus or has other eye issues I would get him checked. Also, bring it up to your ped at your next visit just to make yourself feel better!
