Night time potty training advice

DD who just turned 3 last month has been day trained since about 2 1/2. I always used pull ups for nap and night time. I just started not doing pull ups for nap time and she wakes up dry so we are good there.

She has MAJOR poop issues...like during training and until recently she holds it until the last possible minute and would scream crying out of fear of it coming out and wouldn't even get up after she was finished. She finally became okay with parting ways with the poop.Chat Icon

She now holds it in for days at a time and waits until her night time pull up and goes then. I have her on these fiber gummies to help move things along so it's not painful to go. If she does go on the potty she waits until the last possible minute.

I want her to stop waiting like that so I've been putting her in panties at night. All 3 nights she had one accident. The first night she was dry all night and when she first woke up she peed, probably out of habit. The next night she peed at about 5 am (I check a few times a night), in her sleep.

Last night she finally pooped on the potty in her room - and was so excited about it. However, at about 3:30 am she peed in her sleep. I would put her back in pull ups but then the poop issuses will start up again. Do you think she will stop peeing while asleep? Should I wake her up and have her go on the potty in the middle of the night I'm so confused -- any advice is appreciated! Thanks!

what time is her last drink of the night?

what time is her last pee?

we took off the pull ups once DD had a stretch of waking up dry a few days to a week in a row. she was day and night trained pretty close though so i don't know if i'm much help...

I have been having her last drink no later than 6pm. She's always been a big drinker - so I'm trying to curb that.

Her last pee is right before bed and sometimes I go up and have her pee because she is up playing for almost an hour before falling asleep. So I'd say her last pee is around 9ish.

I heard about them waking up dry - that is when they are ready. My problem is she never has an accident in her panties during the day or awake, but as soon as her pull up is on, to her she can pee and poop as she pleases. She will even pee in it before falling asleep and not care. So I felt like she'd never wake up dry with a pull up on...if that makes sense.

I would keep her in pull ups until she was 100% ready - but this poop thing needs to be resolved so she becomes regular and gets over the fear of pooping on the potty!Chat Icon
