Re: Nightly Poll: What was worse for you? Blackout or Transit Strike?
They were the same - I missed the Blackout at work since I was on maternity leave. Transit strike was missed for a sick son. Maybe having kids does really make you miss the drama...kidding..kidding.

Neither... I had power for the blackout, and I live on Long Island. So I wasn't affected by the strike.

ETA, although I am not a fan of winter, this was much better walking weather! There is nothing like being sweaty & not having a change of clothes.
Yes i definitely noticed this. I actually didn't mind the walking (even in this cold) because I wasn't dripping of sweat when I got to my destination.
Yeah, and the blackout day was pretty close to the high for that time of year, but this week, wasn't nearly as cold as it could have been. And walking warms you up, so it's better to start out cold!

Re: Nightly Poll: What was worse for you? Blackout or Transit Strike?
i live and work on LI so the transit strike did not affect me. the blackout was more of an inconvenience then anything else. IMO, both of these incidents really makes one stop and think and appreciate all that we have and to not to take anything for granted.

Re: Nightly Poll: What was worse for you? Blackout or Transit Strike?
For me I would have to say the blackout. I had to walk from 34th Street to the 59th Street Bridge - over the bridge and finally just stopped at the Queens Center Mall. My feet just couldn't go any further. It was hot and I was having a hard time getting in touch with anyone. I was on my own for that.
The transit strike was a little easier than than because I was able to take the LIRR. Plus I had DH with me the entire time - made it easier.

Re: Nightly Poll: What was worse for you? Blackout or Transit Strike?
The transit strike was worse....DH is a SGT in NYPD...so he was forced to work his days off...which really made child care an issue for us....luckily my boss is very understanding and she let me leave early every day this week...but I still have so much to do to prepare for Christmas dinner and DH not being home to watch James while I clean, wrap presents and finish up the shopping has made everything very choatic. DH is still on a Strike schedule working another 12 hour day but hopefully we will be back to normal by tomorrow.
The Blackout again was a Butt pain for DH because he has to work alot of extra hours...but it was not so bad for me...we actually got to know alot of our nieghbors. It was like a giant block party...everyone pulled their b'que's to the front yard and we all ate and hung out together.

Re: Nightly Poll: What was worse for you? Blackout or Transit Strike?
definitely the strike.
During the black ou I did walk from my job in Midtown all the way to the Queens Center Mall and that was a huge pain since I was broke and really hot.
BUT the strike was several days of inconvenience and I spent way too much money getting to work and back.

Re: Nightly Poll: What was worse for you? Blackout or Transit Strike?
Neither was too bad, but if I had to chose- The blackout.
I had to walk from the WTC to my apartment at 94th Street. I got on a bus around 42nd street and smelled SO BAD!!!
Not to mention my 16 and 21 year old SIL were visiting frmo another country and I was so worried they wouldn't know how to get to my apartment (thankfully they were home when it happened). But I had just gone food shopping and all my meat and dairy went bad But once I got home, and everyone was safe and sound- we actually had a pretty good time! We brought some beers down and hung out with some neighbors and I bumped into a friend and we all hung outside eating cookies and drinking beers with people who walked by.
