Re: transit strike...

I'm going in. What am I going to do, stay home for 2 weeks? The last one lasted 11 days. Yeah, hopefully it'll be shorter this time but you never know and I know I for one cannot afford to miss that much work.

We are allowed to work from home if possible (thankfully I can!!!)

As for if it happens and continues through next week I'm just going to come in and pray for a cab!

Re: transit strike...

For tomorrow, I'll be staying home.

BUT I really don't think they'll strike. The city has too much of a vested interested...$400 million a day in loss revenue is no chump change...I'm hopeful that they'll find a solution!

Re: transit strike...

I am coming in, train to the ferry, then looking for a shuttle or making the walk in. I am downtown, so the intensity of the walk depends on the weather.

Leo can't get a break though. He has a final on 23rd. That is a loooooooong walk

Sorry to go off the topic but I noticed your profile pic....how did you get a picture of your sonogram onto the computer. I don't have a scanner. Is there any other way of doing it.

I wanted to post mine but don't know how to get the pic onto the computer.

I hope not too but to be honest, I think they'll strike at least tomorrow. Hoping they'll figure something out by the end of the weekend though so it's only one day of hell. Chat Icon

They really should end these contracts in the summertime when it wouldn't be as much of a burden on the city Chat Icon

Re: transit strike...

I hope the city sues the Union. I am so ****** because in the end we will be paying for their raises when the fare goes up and it will! Then in two years when they threaten to strike yet again the fare will go up again. It will get to the point where I won't able to even afford coming into work anymore...

Do you expect a raise every year? And what about when you're given way more responsibility than the initial job you were hired for - do you expect a raise then?

They're in the public eye, and perform a service that affects all of us, so when they decide not to 'do' that service because of the crumby way they're being treated, people get annoyed because it affects them. But at the end of the day, these guys forwent any sort of decent contract because of the strained economy following September 11th. Due to the very same thing that caused them a minimal raise, they took on a whole lot more responsibility. Ever hear of "See something, say something - tell an MTA employee or a policeman"? well, that's THEM. they're now responsible for OUR security almost in the same manner as a police officer, who is trained to perform such duties - they are NOT.

Truthfully, I think at this point, it's a pis$ing contest. But when sanitation, firemen and teachers all just got pretty hefty raises, and with a $450million dollar surplus, OBVIOUSLY they want, and should get, more than the measly 3% offer initially proposed.

Yeah, that is nice. I gues they really need you guys to work! Chat Icon
I'm off Friday ( not because of the strike) , & I'm bring work home for Mondany, but beyond that I'll have to walk from Grand Central I guess. Most likely , we will stagger hours & hopefully I could get a cab at off hours.

I think they may strike, but tht it will only last 1 day.

I agree- As a teacher, one of the issues we raised with the city was the cost of living in this area and I'm sure it was a factor in us getting the raise ('cause I know Bloomberg does not think we work enought!). Thus the same is true for transit workers. I hope it does not come to a strike but they need to get more.
