Transit Strike Contingency Plan - Anyone seen it?
I've "heard" there is one, but I haven't seen it and cannot find anything online. I feel like this isn't getting the coverage it should, considering we're 3 days out from this.
Anyway, I really just want to know if the LIRR will accept my metrocard if the strike occurs or if I have to pay twice to commute
Anyone?

no cars with less than 4 people south of 96th st.
there was brief mention of "shuttle busses" but I'm not sure where.

If there is a strike I am not going to work. I am not going to risk having a heart attack during all the chaos.

Re: Transit Strike Contingency Plan - Anyone seen it?
Taken from page 6 of the AM New York newspaper:
- only cars with a minumum of 4 passengers are allowed below 96th street between the hours of 5 am and 11 am
- taxi drivers will be allowed to pick up multiple fares
-carpooling areas will be set up in all 5 boroughs (didnt specify where)
-truck deliveries will be limited during morning hours
-staggered work hours and telecommuting will be encouraged
-public school will start two hours later
- extra metro north and LIRR trains will be added

some plan
What about suspension of alternate side of the street parking and allowing already purchased metrocards as the fares on the alternate transportations??
I really hope this is only Friday and they reach a settlement this weekend
(Thanks Rebecca!)

Our company has their own Contingency Plan. I work in Manhattan and with the strike I will work out of the EAB Plaza in Uniondale--I can train to NYC faster than I can drive to EAB...

Actually I heard that also and then this morning I got the brochure on the train that 7 morning and 7 evening LIRR trains will be cancelled and other trains will be combined.
Hunterspoint will be closed and LICity will have limited service.
They plan to add supplemental shuttle trains for select LIRR stations within the city limits.

Eileen, in that first link that Sweatpea posted, they list that alternate side parking will be suspended.
For PATH trains, you can use a pay per ride metro card, but not an unlimited card. The PATH only costs $1.50 though. I don't know what the case will be for LIRR & Metro North.
If you do have to pay full fare, see if you can find somrone who gets a mothly pass. Both Lirr & Metro North were giving out free 10 trips as a holiday bonus withthe purchase of a December monthly Metro Card, so if someone let you use theirs, you would only have to pay the in rease from off-peak to peak.

Re: Transit Strike Contingency Plan - Anyone seen it?
Here is a question & answer from the website--how funny--
Question: I driver a mini-Cooper, my car can't handle more than 2 people, does that make me exempt?
Answer: No, the size of your vehicle doesn't exempt you from the 4 or more rule with one exception, motorcycles will be allowed with one or two riders.

Re: Transit Strike Contingency Plan - Anyone seen it?
My boss told us if there is a strike we could work from home.....which I do most of the time anyway...
Would be a complete pain for DH though who HAS to be in everyday and works all the way downtown in the WFC....

no cars with less than 4 people south of 96th st.
I want to drive up to the bridge in my 2 seater Audi TT and ask them how they expect me to fit four people in my car.
Maybe they will let me slide with two people.

Re: Transit Strike Contingency Plan - Anyone seen it?
Damm I just read the reply above about the Mini Cooper. Thats total BS.
Well they said the restriction is lifted at 11am. I'll just drive in then... since my hours don't start till 10:30am anyways. An extra hour won't kill me.

Not really. Plus I have to DJ anyways in the evenings... so i need my car to get home.
Especially now that I have to travel from Manhattan to Levittown instead of Bayside.
I'll just come in at 11am or so.

No way, this isn't true. LIRR handed out fliers this morning listing all of their pear and off-peak trains that will be cancelled if there is a strike!!
