Nikon D60 Users Come In

For those of you who own the Nikon D60 and are not photographers, do you find you use a lot of the functions or do you just use the basic settings? Is it your main camera, or do you just use it for specific types of pictures? I'm considering buying it but I'm worried it will be a waste because I won't use it the right ways.

I use a few of the different settings. It is our only camera, so yes it is our main camera.
I would love to take a class to learn how to use it better though.

It's not our main camera so i just bring it to special occasions or certain places. I don't really use too many of the functions. I pretty much just use the basic settings. I am still reading up on the other functions but i am not sure on all of them yet. It does take amazing pics though. I would want to take a class on it sometime as well.

Re: Nikon D60 Users Come In

It depends on what I"m shooting.

I use the "child" funtion a lot. I also use the "still life" function (I don't know if it's really called the still life fucntion but I use it when I'm shooting flowers and stuff like that). For everything else (which is a lot) I use the "auto" function. But the pictures are still better than the "auto" function on my basic point and shoot (an Olympus).

I usually carry both cameras with me unless I'm going to a BBQ or something like that, than I just bring my point and shoot.

If you're thinking of getting one, just do it. It comes with an instructional DVD, so there's really no reason NOT to learn all of the other functions on the camera and what it can really do.

Re: Nikon D60 Users Come In

I use a bit of the functions, but none of the auto functions much anymore. What's the point?

When I first got it I used the auto and it wasn't exactly what I wanted. I took a class which taught me how to use shutter, aperture and exposure and that really helped. Now I can use the S, A and P function on the camera. The teacher said the M function isn't used much except for panoramas. He didn't go into it much. I have a basic feel for how to use it and I am quite happy with my photos.

We got this camera because I was sick of having bad photos. Our point and shoot broke and this is our main camera now. I have to admit it is a bit of a pain to carry it around, but I got a special backpack for it which is great for my needs, because I do a lot of hiking. In the end, I have photos that I am happy with.
