OMG what is going on? So many of these train accidents lately but hitting a building? So weird.
The building is at the end of the track. This stop is the last on the line. So the train didn't slow to stop, just kept going right on through.
So this train was not NYC bound then right? This was a Hoboken bound train?
On the train map here: https://www.njtransit.com/pdf/rail/Rail_System_Map.pdf you can see the lines. It left the Secaucus station, and was going to the Hoboken station. There are no tracks past the Hoboken station
Ah ok thanks. So yo would have to get off in Hoboken and take the Path to NYC

Yes - you get off in Hoboken and take the PATH or ferry to NYC. Many transfer in Secaucus to go to Penn.

Re: NJ Transit train accident
http://abcnews.go.com/US/nj-transit-train-crashes-hoboken-station-reports/story?id=42444695
At least one person died and dozens more were injured, some seriously, when a NJ Transit commuter train carrying 250 people and traveling at a high rate of speed crashed into Hoboken's historic train station this morning, authorities said. ... At least 51 people are receiving treatment at Jersey City Medical Center after a New Jersey Transit commuter train crashed into Hoboken Terminal this morning, according to hospital officials.
One area trauma center, Jersey City Medical Center, is treating three people who sustained critical or serious injuries in the crash, hospital officials said. None of the injuries at this point are life-threatening. Another eight patients with less serious injuries are in the hospital's emergency room.
Dozens of people overall are being evaluated or treated at area hospitals.
Eight people are also being evaluated at the hospital's emergency department for injuries and may be admitted, Scott said. The hospital has set up its cafeteria to accommodate the "walking wounded," he noted.
Hoboken University Medical Center confirmed that it was treating 22 patients for various injuries including lacerations, fractures and bruises, according to the hospital's chief medical officer Meika Roberson.
All are in stable condition and no additional patients with serious injuries are expected at this time, according to Roberson.
One patient is being treated for head trauma at Christ Hospital in Jersey City, according to a spokesperson.
Considering how bad the collision looked, it's "good" to hear that there was only one death, and minimal critical injuries. Still no word on what might have caused the excess speed.

NJ Transit train accident
Engineers dad was on News4...worried...heard reports he was slumped over dead. Just found out he made it. I can't imagine being his family and watching this all unfold live on tv.

That's what I'm thinking or fell asleep. His dad said he was very experienced, has worked there over 30 years. Has been an accident investigator for NJ Transit. I just can't get over the media interviewing this one man who kept saying he was obviously dead... and then playing it over and over while the family had no idea if he was really alive or dead and made multiple calls with no answers. Media sucks sometimes!

And what makes this man an EXPERT on what is obviously dead you know? A person passed out, sleeping or dead can all look pretty much the same on a moving train so how close of a look did this eye witness actually get to make a call like that? People just want to be in the spot light so bad- they will say anything for attention. It's sickening. And yes, I hate the media.

I hate that the media just puts people on camera or the phone to get their input without getting facts 1st. They all want to have the "breaking news" or "you heard it hear 1st" headline. Makes me so angry.

In this guys defense, he is a railroad worker that was waiting for his train at the station, and then was helping people out of the train car after the crash. But...they still shouldn't have been playing that interview over and over like that! He also said he had to step over a dead person to help the people out. So I'm thinking that was the woman who perished on the platform

Yeah i get it. I just think of the poor family of that guy- having to hear he was DEFINITELY dead. Like a doctor declared him dead or something. And meanwhile he isn't Disturbing

NJ Transit train accident
The woman who died is identified as 34 year old, mother of one, Fabiola Bittar de Kroon. May she RIP.
Her baby was only about 19 months. How unbelievably tragic.

Re: NJ Transit train accident
(CNN)A potentially key piece of evidence has been recovered in the hunt for what caused a deadly crash of a commuter train in New Jersey.
Investigators retrieved an event recorder from the New Jersey Transit train that hurtled past its stopping point Thursday at the Hoboken station and rammed through a passenger concourse, and they expect to download information from the device Friday morning, a US official with direct knowledge of the probe said.
