No Words at 10 months?
Anyone else? I have boy twins who were born about 5 weeks early so I know they may be a little slower. They make consonant sounds like gaga yai yai da da ah ah
No Mama though
What do you think?

Re: No Words at 10 months?
I think in the 10 month screening paperwork I had to fill out, it asked if DS was saying words. But by words, they wanted to know about any rhyming sounds, which they considered as words.
So if they are repeating syllables, I think they are ok!

My DS will be 10 months in a little over a week and all he says is dada and everything else is just babbling, the same constant sounds you described and sometimes he sings I might get the ocassional Ma but its rare.
I wouldn't worry, they have time.

Re: No Words at 10 months?
I think you're absolutely fine as long as they are babbling.
Do any of their sounds refer to an object yet?
At 10 months (also 6 weeks premature), my MIL & mom claimed that Joseph said "Ball". He didn't. He said "Bah! Bah!" ,& was referring to the ball. So was it his first word? I didn't count it.

Re: No Words at 10 months?
Luca is 13 months and he still just babbles. even when he says "mama" it's more like mamamamama! same for dada. he makes other sounds though (like "mmmmoo" for cow and "room" for vroom )

Re: No Words at 10 months?
I'm a speech pathologist...it sounds fine to me. They should be babbling, but if there aren't any words yet, that's perfectly normal. First words appear around 1 year and like with any other developmental milestone there is a range of what is considered normal. Some kids may have words before a year and some may not have any words until a little after a year...both normal. By 18 months they should have around 10-15 words.

You should have! Articulation is far from perfect at 10 months! Word "approximations" count as words too. As long as they consistenly use the same approximation to refer to something it counts as a word.

Re: No Words at 10 months?
10 mths old here, also a mth early.
DD just started talking more, just started razzing a few weeks ago.
She does say Mama, dada, baba, and BOOM Boom (dont know what it means but it means food or bottle, cant figure it out).
She really just started talking this mth, so I think your boys are ok and on the right track.

Re: No Words at 10 months?
DD is 9 months and is saying what your boys are saying she also says doh doh for the Dog, at least I like to think so I wouldn't worry, my ped asked if she was saying mama or dada and I said she does but doens't say it correctly all the time, he said it was fine...she RARELY says mama, and calls everything DADA, but calls DH papa which I have NOOOO idea where that came from

Re: No Words at 10 months?
I wouldn't expect a lot of words at 10 months. Cailen is 2.5 and he NEVER stops talking His words just started at the end of his 10th month - almost 11 months - he was walking before he really spoke. When he was almost 11 mts old, he started saying Dada (including me - I was Dada, everything was Dada ). I remember when he was about 14-15 months old, he started saying little words here and there. They slowly built up throughout the year. The true word explosion didn't kick in until after he was 20 mts old... and then he was completely conversational after his second bday... And i'm sure you know, I watch this stuff like a hawk. I would not be concerned at ALL at 10 mts - if they are pointing, looking at you to get your attention, following your facial expressions, and doing things like clapping, they are good!

Hmmm see they do not point or clap They do follow my expressions and are very interactive all day. They do babble all day long but I don't notice them referring to specific things. They know how to use their toys and make things do what they were meant to do...

My DD doesn't point or clap either. I really think it's b/c they were a mth early. So maybe they are more like 9 mth olds but not advanced 9 mth old, kwiM?

Yes-I think girls are also a bit ahead of boys verbally so I've read.
