no yolk sac

This is obviously a fake name, I'm in hiding for now.

I got my BFP last weekend & went for my 1st appointment on Tuesday 2/2. My Dr. thinks she saw a flickering (maybe a heartbeat?) but no yolk sac. She told me not to be concerned just yet, that it still could be too early. I'm probably about 5 weeks now. Has this happened with anyone else? I am going back in 3 weeks for another sono to see what is going on.
Has anyone else had experience with this?

Re: no yolk sac

From what I've heard here it's toally normal.

My OB didn't do an ultrasound when I first went at 6w5d, he did one when I was 7w5d.

You are still very early, I have read many stories on here that that has happened to many people. Your baby is 1-4mm its very hard to see anything right now.

Did they do blood work?

yes, they did take a few viles of blood, but i haven't heard anything. I'm not really sure what I should be feeling now.

Physically, i'm exhausted, my boobs hurts, headaches & some cramping.

Re: no yolk sac

Its very early. Actually I'm really surprised your OB would even see you at 5 wks let alone do a sono. At 6 wks my RE did a sono and I saw a yolk sak and a teeny tiny hardly visable heart beat.
As for what you should be feeling it can vary between any number of symptoms or none at all. Cramping, very AF like is normal so don't let that worry you. Try and take it easy and not worry - I know easier said than done. Good luck!

Very normal, and I doubt she even saw the HB. 5 weeks is WAY too early unless you are further along then you thought.

Most Dr's won't even attempt a sono or see you that early.
That is WAY early.
Don't worry yet!

totally agree! Unless your cycles are irregular or something, doing a sono so early is pointless.

Try not to freak!

Do not worry. It is TOO early. When i had my first sono with the RE at 5 weeks the doctor said he saw a dot that might be the yolk sac but he couldn't tell for sure. The following week we saw the heartbeat. Do you know you are definitely 5 weeks, you might be less..

Re: no yolk sac

As others have said, 5 week is WAY too early to see anything.

With my DD at 5 weeks we only saw the start of a very small sac. (I went to a RE which is why I had sonos from very early on). Most OBs won't even see you until you are at least 8 weeks

Re: no yolk sac

I was 4 wks 4 days when I went for my first visit, and they saw nothing, except slight thickening of the uterine wall. They said there was no evidence of a pregnancy, but that it was very early, so not to worry.

I went back at 7 wks, and saw the heart beat and everything.

So it sounds normal to me. Hang in there until your next visit. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I swear it's because they can bill the insurance companies for a visit and a sono.
It's all about money.
Sad!

Re: no yolk sac

Something similar happened to me too - first visit, just a thick uterine lining, second visit 2 weeks later, no hb, third visit, everything was there - hb and all. DD is 2 weeks old today.

Re: no yolk sac

I agree it's very early. My first sono was done around 6 weeks and all my Dr. checked was to make sure the sac was in my uterus. I saw a small sac but not too much else.

I would also stay on your Dr. for your bloodwork results.
