Re: North Shore Manhasset Hospital
It was WONDERFUL. we both felt like we were at a hotel!!!! I was taken there by ambulance, so I didnt have my Dr. and still thought it was wonderful!! I actually had no idea that I would be getting a private room! after dealing with the early delivery with premature babies (twins) I was so glad I had one. I was a wreck and could not have imagined if DW was not able to stay with me every night. The food was AMAZING and I would love for my bathroom at home to be that nice.
I was there for a vaginal delivery, so 2 nights, and there was only one nurse I was not happy with and she was not assigned to me, just came when I pressed the call button bc my nurse was on her break. not that it makes it ok, I actually spoke to the nurse manager about it.
Both my girls were in the nicu. which was wonderful! twin A was there for 31 days. Twin B was there for a day, then moved to the nicu at LIJ for surgical reasons for 2 weeks or so. They also have a wonderful facility! Then she was moved back for a total of 36 days. If I had to pick NICU's (not based on surgical facility), I would pick north shore. Having had premies in both facilities at the same time. It was geared more towards the family and just felt cozier.

Re: North Shore Manhasset Hospital
i delivered there in june. my labor experience was good. had two very nice nurses and a quick labor and delivery. it took hours and hours to get me moved to the recovery room (the fancy one in the new wing). once i got up there at about 4 am, the nurse was super nice, sweet and attentive. i had a third degree tear and was in a LOT of pain and she helped me with the ointments and the pads and all that. but after her shift ended, i really was not thrilled with the care i received. it wasnt bad or anything, but as a first time mom who was completely inexperienced, i could have used a bit more help and support, instead of a cursory check in every few hours. my aunt who is also a nurse at a different hosp and a LC is the one who taught and helped me with breastfeeding...the LC there did not spend much time with me. i was supposed to get percoset every 4 hours and EVERY time i needed it, i had to ask for it. it may sound like a small thing, but i had a major tear and really needed those meds.
but, the room i had was fabulous. it was huge with a huge bathroom. the food was delicious, believe it or not, and you get to order what you want from a lovely menu. overall the experience was fine...i just kinda wished the nurses were there for me a bit more.
good luck to you!!!!

I had the same experience, except I was a c-section. I was in recovery for 8 hours till a room was available. Then my first nurse that night was amazing, she was so helpful. I was so upset I didn't have her again. My other nurses were ok, they just weren't as nice and attentive as her.

Re: North Shore Manhasset Hospital
I agree I had a c section last November and while I was very happy overall i felt like the nurses were such a hit and miss but i like to think that is everywhere its human beings some people are going to click some are not i just felt like everyone who works with new mommies would be a bit warmer ... I think the hospital has its sh*t together and you love your dr thats the most important.

Re: North Shore Manhasset Hospital
That is funny - that is exactly how my Dr described it...like a hotel
-huge room and bathroom -meals ordered off menu and not necessarily at set times -fridge in the room -etc.
I feel like you will get good nurses and bad nurses where ever you go..I fond that at LIJ and winthrop as well....
I like that you ladies had an overall good exp with the hospital!
Thanks!
What about DHs - do they kick them out? can they stay overnight?

Re: North Shore Manhasset Hospital
I delivered my first two there (third was OOS) and I won't go ANYWHERE else whether it be for my kids or me.. I also won't see a doctor unless that's where they go
Your DH will get his own bracelet and he can come and go freely as he wants.. they will NOT kick him out.

My dh stayed overnight. The couch turns into a little bed. He was still sort of uncomfortable but def better than the chair he had last time (before renovations).
Also, the nurses are hit or miss. As far as the stay after delivery if your DH is there you will barely need the nurses anyway. Whenever I needed something I basically had DH go get it, kwim?
