Nov, Dec, Jan Bdays...please come in

Just curious how you feel about your birthday so close to the holidays. Do you feel like you miss out? Or it doesn't really matter?

Re: Nov, Dec, Jan Bdays...please come in

My birthday is Jan. 5th. It doesn't really matter much to me anymore, but I used to feel a little jipped when I was a kid.
On one hand I liked it because after the holidays it was a bummer but then I was like "oh I get presents again in a week." But then once my birthday was over, that was it for a year.

December 21. My family always went overboard with gifts, I never felt like I was missing out.

December 26th here, I never felt like I missed out. My birthday was always celebrated on my birthday--it was a bonus deal that everyone was always around for it!Chat Icon

Re: Nov, Dec, Jan Bdays...please come in

I feel like I miss out, but not because it's around the holidays. My Bday is 12/7. My sister's is 12/9. We always had to share a bday on 12/8 so people wouldn't have to come over twice, we only had one cake, etc. And now, my Dad's g/f's son's bday is 12/5.

I am a July baby, however, DH is Jan. 16th and I find it incredibly hard to shop for him. I usually get a ton of gifts for Christmas and put two or so away, but its so hard especially when he got a ton of stuff for Christmas.

not sure how this qualifies, but I have a VERY hard time shopping for DH b/c his b-day is on 10/28, our anniversary is on 11/6 and then Christmas is not long after that. Chat Icon

My birthday is January 12th.

I never felt jipped as a child by any means... My parents always made it special, and I don't feel jipped as an adult either. We have Christmas, then my birthday, then we have Valentine's day.

Then mid year we have his birthday 5.15, so we have a small party for him!

Re: Nov, Dec, Jan Bdays...please come in

Honestly, as a kid I felt more slighted having a birthday in the summer time because nobody was around to celebrate it. I had to have birthday parties two months before my actual birthday. Now I couldnt give a damn if people remember it or not. Never was big on birthdays as an adult.

Hate it. Always feel cheated and people aren't available to party on my birthday because of Christmas parties and other crap.

My birthday is in the beginning of November so I don't feel slighted b/c I think it isn't that close to the holidays.

Mine is December 19th. I hated it! I also shared my birthday with my little brother who's is December 23rd. I wanted so badly to not have a baby around the holidays, but it looks like it may be the case anyway. I will do everything in my power to seperate my child's birthday from the holiday hustle and bustle if I happen to have my baby around that time.

Re: Nov, Dec, Jan Bdays...please come in

My birthday is December 22nd and I've always felt like my birthday was a little bit looked over because it's so close to Christmas. Almost like people are so busy around my birthday because of the upcoming holiday, that they don't have the time to celebrate with me. My Mom always tried to make the two seperate for me...but there are still those people that will give me a birthday present wrapped in Christmas paper! My biggest pet peeve!! LOL

my birthday is new years day. i always liked that it was on a holiday and i always got attention from people lke " what a cool birthday to have!" " new years baby, huh??" that kind of stuff...
BUT i hate that its exactly a week after christmas which gives people just enough time to search through their christmas presents and figure out what they don't want and regift it to me for my birthday Chat Icon Chat Icon so in that way i felt jipped sometimes, but it wasn't too bad...

Mine's January 20 and it did always bother me that it was right after Christmas. Although if there was anything I wanted that I didn't get for Christmas, I'd just ask for it for my birthday. I would rather spread the gifts out though. And I really don't like having a winter birthday. When I was younger I had so many parties canceled due to snow. Chat Icon

Re: Nov, Dec, Jan Bdays...please come in

December 24 here...HATE IT!

I either have to do everything one month before, or one moth after b/c of the Holidays. Not that I want an all-out birthday celebration, but we have a tradition in my family and among my friends to at least have dinner....

It never bothered me as much until this year with my OWN HUSBAND dismissed my birthday. Essentially, we were discussing what we wanted to get each other for Christmas...when we were thru with that conversation, I said "What about my birthday, what do you want to do?" He responded with "Isn't Christmas enough?"

Needless to say I flipped my lid b/c I don't dismiss HIS birthday like that with a response like "Oh, isn't our anniversary enough?"

Sheeesh...Okay. Done.

p.s. My Sweet 16 was held on November 15!

ETA: I was never "jipped" b/c of the gifts...there was always an abundence. However, I want to say slighted in terms of actually CELEBRATING...
