Now all she wants to do is hold something and eat it herself... need ideas!

She used to only want table food and was done with me feeding her purees off a spoon, so for the last few months I cut everything we eat up really small and she'd eat it up. Now for the past week all she wants is one big piece of something that she can hold and bite pieces off! She just mashes/plays with the food I cut up for her...

She will devour a whole half of a banana and last night I made that thick flat pasta and she could hold a big piece and eat it, she went crazy for it. But I need more ideas!!

I'm still so nervous to give her a lot of things b/c she JUST got her 2 top teeth (the other 2 popping through) so she has just the 2 bottoms and the tops. I know she can still gum it but i'm a nervous nelly with choking.

Thanks for the ideas!

Those of you that give grilled cheese... obviously you have to wait until it's not piping hot but then the cheese isn't as soft and melty, right? I'm worried she'll get too big of a piece eating that... ugh I need to get over my fear of choking!

Last night she did have watermelon and loved it and I give her slices of avocado sometimes too.

How do you make your own chicken nuggets?

yes, you do! Chat Icon

They ARE GOING to choke from time to time.. That's how they learn to eat.. you have to make sure that you tell her to take small bites and CHEW CHEW CHEW.. My kids say that to their younger sis now and it's hysterical..

As for chicken cutlets,

I really like Jessica Sienfeld's recipe! I admit that sometimes I do my lazy mom version and do the same way I'd do a regular chicken cutlet, but I cut them up in strips and then throw them in the oven instead of frying them.. :O)

Chicken Nuggets (with Broccoli or Spinach or Sweet Potato or Beet)
1 cup whole-wheat or white or panko (Japanese breadcrumbs)
1/2 cup flaxseed meal
1 tablespoon grated Parmesan
1/2 teaspoon paprika
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
1 cup broccoli or spinach or sweet potato or beet puree
1 large egg , lightly beaten
1 pound boneless skinless chicken breasts or chicken tenders , rinsed, dried and cut into small chunks
1/2 teaspoon salt
Nonstick cooking spray
1 tablespoon olive oil
Directions:

In a bowl, combine the breadcrumbs, flaxseed meal, Parmesan, paprika, garlic and onion powder on the paper or foil and mix well with your fingers.

In a shallow bowl, mix the vegetable puree and egg with a fork and set the bowl next to the breadcrumb mixture.

Sprinkle the chicken chunks with the salt. Dip the chunks into the egg mixture and then toss them in the breadcrumbs until completely coated.

Coat a large nonstick skillet with cooking spray and set over medium-high heat. When the skillet is hot, add the oil. Place the chicken nuggets in the skillet in a single layer, being careful not to crowd the pan, and cook until crisp and golden on one side, 3 to 4 minutes. Then turn and cook until the chicken is cooked through, golden brown and crisp all over, 4 to 5 minutes longer. (Cut through a piece to check that it's cooked through.) Serve warm.

Not the most "nutricious" but I let my DD hold & eat a wafer ice-cream cone cup and let her dump cheerios in/out of it Chat Icon The ice-cream cups dissolve really easy which I like !

Keeps her occupied while I am cooking Chat Icon

Goood recipe but since D can't have egg-I do

soy yogurt mixed with garlic and pepper
dip the chicken in that then in the panko and they like them alot. You can also dip them in preserves and then bread them.

Try sweet potato cut into sticks really anything cut that way...toast, apple, pear etc

At 10 mnths Tyler eats everything we eat. No more baby food.

Just give tiny pieces. Choking freaks me out but she has to learn how to chew food. Ty just got his top two teeth also! Chat Icon Chat Icon

hahah that's what Logan's been doing the past few months!! He doesn't do little piece of anything...only big things that he can hold and bite. I think his favorite is asparagus!

Pretty much everything can be cut into strips. Chicken, zucchini, cucumbers, asparagus, potatoes, polenta, etc.

Chat Icon I posted the same thing a while back!!!
