NRPR: Day Trip Out East
Not Really Pregnancy Related, but I thought maybe you gals can help me out..
DH and I want to go out east for a day trip on Saturday. Any suggestions on where to go, what to do, etc..
I am ashamed to say that I've lived here on LI all of my life and have never really done this. Besides with my parents when I was little.
I am open to all options except wineries and breweries I am really looking forward to this and nervous b/c I don't know where to go. HEELLLPP Please!!!! Thank you ladies!

Re: NRPR: Day Trip Out East
Do you want to go as far as Montauk? It's quite a drive, but really nice when you get out there. Or you could go to Greenport. Plenty of little shops there.

Re: NRPR: Day Trip Out East
if you want to avoid wineries, i'd say the only option on the north fork with enough to do is greenport, but even then i'm not sure it's a full days worth of activity... i'd combine that with a beach, there are public access beaches you could spend a few hours at. i'm not sure if the mattituck strawberry festival happened already but you could see when that is also. in between - you could take a ferry to shelter island from greenport, it's really pretty there. can't help ya with the south fork.

Re: NRPR: Day Trip Out East
Thanks guys! Ok maybe I'll check out Greenport and Montauk. (2 diff forks I know..) I've never been to Shelter Island, so I'll look into that too.
Any specific places to hit up? Eateries? Farm Stands? Shops? Beaches?

I live in Hampton Bays. We have lots of great places to eat, and shopping in Southampton is always fun, not for DH probably, but for you :)

I agree HOWEVER.... It's supposed to be REALLY hot this weekend. Be careful staying outside so long. These places are so nice to walk around and eat but in the heat you just might be miserable. Maybe hold off until it get cooler or until Fall when the drive out there is much nicer. All of the farmstands are set.

Re: NRPR: Day Trip Out East
DH and I sometimes go to Sag Harbor and walk around the town. It's a nice quaint town with shops right by the water. It's not too far of a drive either. Montauk is also a great place to go but it might be too hot right now being that your pregnant. The drive was very long so it might be better if you could stay overnight. Fire Island is also a nice day trip. You drive to the ferry and spend the day there. There are some shops and some restaurants. DH and I also like to drive to Cutchogue in the fall and go apple picking. There are a lot of roadside stands along the way. I'm not sure how it is in the summer though.
