Nut allergy moms
We were sent a notice that there is a student in DS's class with a nut allergy (they said tree nut or peanut)
The allergy is severe and they asked that nothing with tree nuts or peanuts is sent into school. (also, if they eat nuts for breakfast they ask that we brush teeth and wash hands with soap after)
DS isn't a huge PB fan, so that isn't an issue, but what are some things that I should look out for? I'm totally new to this, but I would like to make sure this student doesn't have any reactions.

Re: Nut allergy moms
Very nice of you to ask.
Just read all of the labels of anything you send with DC. Make sure it doesn't say the following:
May contain peanuts/tree nuts Processed in a plant or on equiptment along with peanuts/tree nuts
Obviously avoid peanut butter and also Nutella.

Re: Nut allergy moms
My DS has an anaphylactic allergy to peanuts and treenuts. They can be anywhere. We read the labels on everything, especially baked goods and we read them each time we go shopping because ingredients change.
For snack items, right now teddy grahams, goldfish and Honey Maid graham crackers are safe. Pretty much all granola bars have nuts or are made in factories that process nuts.
I have come across a lot of chips that are made in plants that use peanut products.
It is so encouraging that schools are so aware and are being careful of these allergies. They are so dangerous, I hope all of the parents in your DCs class are as vigilant as you are and are taking the notice to heart

Re: Nut allergy moms
ah nutella. DS doesn't really eat it (I don't know why!)
but DH loves nutella (the spaniard in him - well, nocilla). Does DH have to brush and wash, since he brings him to the bus stop?
and I just have to worry about breakfast before school and what is eaten in school. dinner and weekends are OK?

whew - i sent in honey maid in today.

any safe ones? DS does like cheese doodles, doritos, pringles, lays and I thought about sending them in once in awhile as a treat. good to know that I have to look every time we buy.
