NYC Middle schools applications required!!
Does anyone have more info on the new application requirement for NYC middle schools? I am dreading this for my kids too young!

Go to the doe page and subscribe for email updates.
Also, check the school websites for those you want to apply to, they usually have open houses in Oct/Nov

WHAT???? I am an NYC teacher and I've heard nothing of this. That is crazy. The poor 8th graders cry over high school applications I can't imagine doing that with middle schoolers

I got some more info. The application is based on 4th grade test scores and grades. So, too late for any 5th graders this year, the ones that didn't do well are at a disadvantage! My DD is in 5th in G&T and they are removing grade 6-8 GT from the district. She can retest and apply to outside the district.
That's fine with me, I actually wasn't going to leave her in G&T anyway, but we have to rank the school options, and just like the HS apps, the school will then rank all students to decide who they want!
They will give priority to zoned kids, which is good I guess.

Honestly, the application is for parents not the students. We have to rank the school options, and just like the HS apps, the school will then rank all students to decide who they want!
Who is going to let their 10 yo fill out an application and let them decide which school to rank?!?

i feel like we had to do one for middle school too. But it was out of our district.
