NYC schools will have to make up the days lost!!

anyone hear about this?!?!?! we missed 4 days! Not to mention they were very stressful 4 days. Most long island schools were out for almost 2 full weeks! WTH?!

I know some lost all of feb break 
I am just shocked that we had no extra days built in, we always work more that LI schools.

I think LI schools will be making up some days as well.
im at a private school, and we're having to make up the 5 days that we missed...
1 came from veterans day
1 will come from mlk jr day
1 will come from the last day of easter break
1 we get tacked on to the end of the year
and i think we turn back 1 from a jewish holiday in may

I am in NJ and my son's school was closed for 7 days. They took back two days from a cancelled state teacher conference, and they also took back the early open/early close times for the parent teacher conferences. I am not sure if we will have to make up any additional days but there were three days that are added into the system for snow purposes. Last year they let the kids out of school three days early so to speak - which I am sure will not happen this year.

Hate to say it but as a working parent, I don't mind. We have no vacation out of town planned for the Feb break, so I'd have to find/pay for childcare or take more PTO (also for the June 1/2 day). I know kids need a break, so I do feel bad about that.

You know what though. We missed days. 2 were forgiven by the state and we have 2 snow days built in. Plus Bloomy is a jerk and took them all at once. My home district isn't mkaing up any unless they use snow days. Its so unfair! And for those of us that showered in cold water in our cold homes to go in on that first Friday, it sucks even more!!

I knew the city would be making up those days- even if there had been more built in days. I am wondering what the district I live in will do- we already had a very short Feb break- only Presidents Day and the day after- so I guess the days will come out of the spring.

I don't know..NYC always has more days than anyone else and it was a natural disaster, not a fun for all...all I know is, if the weather is treacherous at any point, they'd better do the safe thing and not point fingers at Sandy

People keep telling me that they didnt have any days built in this yr... Wierd since we ALWAYS work more days than LI but not this yr ? Why?

I'm a LI district and we work 183 as per our contract. Looks like we'll be losing our February break too though

Teachers don't dare complain or you will told you are ungrateful and lucky to have off as much as you do 
I was expecting this, at least we still get monday and tuesday, it is what it is..

We were cancelled 7 days for Sandy and 1 day for the snow. Being that winter hasn't even started I fully expect to give back the entire Feb break
The senate won't even decide on the 180 day rule until January and it is too late at that point. I think they are trying to give advance notice before people book vacations. Also, I read that they usually only forgive 5 days. So we would still have to give back some. And even if they gave us the full 10 days we would only have room for 2 snow days. I read they will probably approve 5 days and then 10 days only for the hardest hit districts. Maybe if they approve the 5 days they will give some of the breaks back?
Good thing I can't afford to go away on peak vacation weeks like Feb. break!!
What are you going to do? It stinks but, the kids did miss a lot of school. Stressful days off or not.

My kids missed almost 2 weeks of school. I personally want these days made up, they have too many days off as it is.
